I recently came across an analogy that made me reflect on my own gaps in understanding global geopolitics. For many Muslims, the Ayatollah holds a position akin to the Pope's role for Catholics worldwide. Now, imagine the outrage if a foreign power assassinated the Pope. Coming from a propagandized Christian perspective, we somehow have made to believe our religion is better, our religion is the righteous one 🙄. It's pure arrogance. It took me one visit to a mosque during a tour to dispel 30+ years of brainwashing. I realized in that moment that Islam is the most pure of the Abrahamic faith. It finally hit me at that moment how arrogant and bigoted I was. Being a Catholic, this is another moment that reasonated deeply and made me understand the significance of the Ayatollah’s assassination was that comparison with the Pope. This world is so prejudiced and bigoted. If the Pope was assassinated, there wouldn't be simply outrage, the world would have united to take down whoever did it. Instead, the world is reuniting with the murderers to go after the victims right now. We live in such a fucked up timeline.
