I would add that protest coverage is typically adversarial, in taxing environments, and that independents are frequently the only source of accurate, on-the-ground reporting.

Menzies says you could give families $1,000/year for subscriptions, so you subsidize their consumption of the news, the consumer gets the choice, it flows to the publishers.
