@JoannaStern The Sheeple would not understand that even if you swamped their Meta feed.

I’ll let the rest of the internet debate Snap’s new ear-crushing Specs. I’m more interested in the anti-smartphone movement, and all the weird, cool gadgets coming out of it. Gift link to today's newsletter: thenewthings.com/p/so-you-hate-…

Snap's Goofy AR Glasses Underwhelm Wall Street After Decade-Long Development Push zerohedge.com/technology/sna…
English

This version of Specs won’t be released after the backlash.
Evan is a great speaker and visionary, but he looked goofy in them, he should have grown out his hair!
(They don’t look as bad on other people: see video).
$SNAP Specs are the closest thing we’ve gotten to a personal smartphone attached to our face, but the price is a bit too much; they need to be $1,500-1,800 range and the design obviously needs some tweaks.
They aren’t too far off!
English

@EdLudlow Is Mandeep Singh someone randomly interviewed on the street. Seems so.

Snap SPECS: here's what the sellside thinks
Citi (Ron Josey): Impressed by AR capabilities, but says prices need to fall and form factor improve for broader adoption
• Citizens (Andrew Boone): More developer kit than consumer product at $2,195; bulky design closer to Vision Pro than fashionable Ray-Bans
• B. Riley (Naved Khan): High price will limit initial adoption, but future versions should become better and more affordable over time
• BI (Mandeep Singh): Specs unlikely to match Meta Ray-Ban adoption due to higher price, weaker AI ecosystem, and app ecosystem challenges
$SNAP shares fell almost 10% yesterday, the biggest drop since March 26th. The stock is down 36% YTD. It fell 25% in 2025 and 36% in 2024.

Why do these founders keep modeling their ugly a$$ VR glasses? At least get some random supermodel to wear them so there's a remote chance someone is tricked into thinking they look cool.

@kallebergman @MultiMismanaged The sheeple will understand when they understand.
English

@MultiMismanaged Who is excited? I haven't seen a single person that doesn't work at Snap being excited about them...
English

I think $SNAP will find a buyer to take specs for at least the amount of capital they've invested in likely more, which is over $3 billion. 7,000 patents and a cutting edge market ready product that has tech enthusiasts excited is worth a lot. So they will not only stop spending but actually get value for it. Stock easily a $15 to $20 or more if that happens.
English

I saw these over 4 years ago while I was at Snap and thought, surely these can only get better... They did not. They're exactly the same. How did no one tell him

@adamamcbride How much did IBM spend developing the first smartphone? They gave up based on early criticism you could not fit it in your pocket leaving the way for Apple.

English

@kallebergman @mkobach This is putting the computing technology into a single device. It’s the 7000 patents that matter.
English

@InsanityRules @mkobach Early cell phones were clunky as hell, but people still thought they were fucking cool!! That's the difference, no one said "they'll get smaller", people said "I want one!"
English

Seemingly unpopular opinion: I don’t hate the new Snap Specs.
Are they bulky? Yes
Are they affordable? No
Do they look cool? Debatable
But this isn’t the final form. This is like saying early computers are too big and too slow. Yes, that’s true. But you can’t build the small, fast computers on V1. Or probably even V10.
Snap knows at this price point this is a niche product. I’d hope it’s a stepping stone to a smaller, more affordable form.
Judge this version of Specs on its ability to get to the next version.
Lastly, I like big swings, even if it means you strike out. It seems like we live in a consumer world of minor optimizations. I want more products that will change the world. But to do that, you have to take big risks. And big risks mean more failures.

English

@outlierrcapital That appears to be what you are missing. Glad you recognized that.
English

I am shorting $SNAP both in my personal acc and the fund
This event was more than terrible glasses. It exposed the CEO imo
I rarely trade events on a short term basis, but this is a rare occasion where I see good r/r
If I was a $SNAP shareholder, I’d be selling my shares.
Outlier Capital@outlierrcapital
It blows my mind that you can be a CEO of a public company and think this is a good product to put out $SNAP
English

@filmgeek_rq @mkobach That’s what will be built with the release of these.
English

@mkobach Sure but early computers actually did something useful. What's the killer app for AR right now?
English

All the hate about how these look is strange to me.
If this is the starting point it they’ll improve fast.
Already very impressive for full AR glasses.
Snapchat is serious

@RussFaigen That was the general expectation that the initial spec release would be 100k and be $2500. People expecting a mass consumer product on first rendition are the ones that don’t understand how amazing the underlying tech is. Going viral is maybe not a bad thing though…..
English

@WallStUnicorn @chooserich You got to try them already as a developer? As with 7000 patents the tech compiled in these is pretty amazing.
English

@chooserich those glasses are the worst. It might go up, just if they fire evan. That should not have been greenlit....
-10 out of 1-10
English

@chooserich This first generation will enable app and software developers to build the ecosystem based on pretty amazing tech. They will sell next generation will be more wide appeal focused. Stock price is a joke at $5 with all fundamentals of social media business in double digit increases
