I sat down with @briebriejoy to expand on the video post I made a few days ago and to answer questions regarding the specific posts I've made that offend the sensibilities of some. This will be the only further commentary I'm going to make on this matter. I wasn't going to talk about it beyond my post, but as there were still unanswered questions, I thought perhaps this could help clarify my position, because there still seems to be a gap in the way people understand the ways in which power and powerless can give the same words different weight and even different meaning. Also, because Briahna Joy Gray is one of my favorite podcasters.

🚨A paramedic in southern Lebanon responded to a strike on a home in the town of Bazouriyeh, doing what he has likely done countless times before - rushing toward destruction to save whoever might still be alive. When he arrived, he realised it was his parents’ house. There was no one to save. “They’re gone… my mother and my father.” The cruelty of it is unbearable. He spends his life racing in an ambulance to save others. But he could not save his own. This is what Israel’s war does. It doesn’t just kill. It turns those who come to rescue into those left to mourn.
The situation that my sister’s family is living in is extremely harsh. Their tent can barely be called a tent — it is torn and very worn out, with water leaking in from everywhere, both from the roof and the ground. They are a family of four, with two children, living in extremely difficult conditions. They have no money at all and cannot even afford to provide food for their children. One of many things I hate about OBAA discourse is that people reduce it to one aspect they intentionally misinterpret and completely ignore all the funny, wholesome and cool moments. It’s okay to enjoy what is actually in the movie instead of hating it for what isn’t even there.
