There are bigger concerns for England than whether the head coach, who is *checks notes* German, sings God Save The King. Such as praying that Harry Kane stays fit as he’s comfortably England’s best source of goals. Praying that Reece James stays fit as England now don’t have a specialist back-up right-back. Hoping that England maintain pressure when/if taking the lead. England have some good players, a widely-admired head coach, and whether Tuchel sings the National Anthem or not is a side-show. Players have already spoken about Tuchel’s passion for the cause, for getting “that second star on the shirt” as he puts it. Tuchel’s job is to give England fans something to sing about. He should be judged on decision-making in crunch moments. Not his singing. The broader issue, about preferring England being managed by an Englishman, the “our best against your best” approach, is something the FA currently tries to address. The board was wrong to give Tuchel a contract extension to 2028. The role should be solely performance-related (not partially). But that has nothing to do with whether Tuchel joins in with an anthem that even some players, saying they’re “in the zone”, don’t sing. There are more important issues. #ENG
