@KathleenBurt55 Last I checked the provincial credit unions rates/fees suck, and their services are quite limited. The real solution is for government to exercise some measure of control of the big banks who actually control the bulk of finance and have the scale to deliver.

They're shutting down the only bank for an hour and a half drive. Why? Pure greed. They're incredibly profitable. The most basic thing gov could do, would be to threaten new fees and taxes if they went ahead with shut downs. But governments don't believe in governing anymore.

Interesting. But I think the reality is, as one trauma therapist put it to me: only ~5% of our life is really under our control. But that doesn't make it hopeless or pointless to exercise control, we should really take care with that 5% that's ours. latimes.com/science/stor...

30 years ago, Russia's elected president and parliament both attempted to seize power. Yeltsin rolled out the tanks. A super-presidential constitution followed in December. Democrats abandoned Yeltsin, who turned to oligarchs for support and put Russia on the path to autocracy.

@davemccarthy707 Having studied wars of the 20th century for a long time, I can safely say that western governments main takeaway from them was: control the message more tightly, and propagandized harder. You can make people support a pointless losing war for ages if you do.
