Great Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh says Will Howard "upped his stock" in spring practice. And impressed Steelers coaches. They loved his ability to make throws "outside the numbers." Howard was QB2 in minicamp and OTAs.

@FrankOnSteelers @Steelersdepot They needed a different voice for quite some time. Tomlin is a great coach but it ran its course- similar to Reid with the eagles. The game has changed and its offense forward so if u arent of that ilk you have to have the supporting cast that is.

Agreed there were interesting prospects but you nailed with Rooney’s in general. I had very low expectations and kept hearing how they were gonna go after a young Tomlin, a young Cowher… all I wanted was Offense. Speaking of which, just curious, in 2018 after starting 7-2-1 and then collapsing and with all the Bell & AB nonsense going on, did you want Tomlin fired? I wanted it and wanted McCarthy or Arians or maybe Lafluer.

@FrankOnSteelers @Steelersdepot Kubiak. Forced no, but lets face it. Art2 has a crush on AR and knew that hiring mike would result in the only scenario to bring back AR. Any other coaching hire and AR is not on the roster. Its a lame hire and lame strat with a very low ceiling.

No doubt it was more than a coincidence how Rodgers recommended him & MCarthy wanted AR right away. But reducing the hire to “Rodgers forced it” ignores why Pittsburgh would want him anyway. He’s from Pittsburgh. He’s won a Super Bowl. He has nearly two decades of head-coaching experience. And he’s an offensive coach taking over a franchise that had spent years near the bottom of the league offensively. Honestly, I’m just glad they finally stopped hiring 1yr DC with leadership skills. Who were you wanting?

I’m saying!! For those of you thinking a 2nd year 6th rounder with no snaps under his belt would somehow block this move are CRAZY. If the #Steelers ultimately don’t take Sorsby it’s because of the gambling fiasco and what baggage comes with that, but it will have nothing to do with Howard’s presence on the roster. And I like Howard, but this fanbase has gotten carried away with takes on him. His roster spot isn’t even fully guaranteed right now and somehow he’s suppose to block a Sorsby move lol.

@FrankOnSteelers @Steelersdepot The only reason white mike got the job is because of a washed rodgers leveraging them to do so. Completely dysfunctional org. Hiring someone for HC that nobody wanted to please an aged out QB that nobody wanted.

HAD no plan- article is a little past tense. For years, the Steelers clearly didn’t have one. They forced Kenny Pickett in the wrong draft, cycled through veteran stopgaps, and never built a serious quarterback-development structure. Heck Canada was OC- no QB would succeed. But now they finally have a coach whose résumé is tied directly to quarterbacks. Rodgers is the bridge. Howard and Allar are developmental bets. McCarthy is the evaluator and teacher. Maybe neither young QB becomes the answer. That’s fair. But “I don’t believe in the plan” is different from saying there is no plan. For the first time since Ben retired, Pittsburgh actually has one.
