If moderates refuse to control boarders, fascists eventually will. Calling massive swaths of the country "racist bigots" for opposing mass immigration only acts to polarize them. Obviously.

“It’s only the extremists that are the problem!” Buddhist extremists don’t wear suicide vests, they look at the ground to avoid stepping on ants when they are walking. Extremism is not a problem if your core beliefs are legitimately non violent.

With AI, we may not be building machines, but summoning entities. Ones which we don’t yet understand. Ones which we likely can’t control. They may not hate us—but they simply may not care. There exists no emergency lever to pull. We race forward in the AI arms race, blinded by curiosity and profit, into the biggest storm we have ever faced. This isn’t innovation, it’s invocation. And it should be feared.

Ideas are the root cause of every word uttered within the bureaucratic theatres that underpin our societies. And of every law that is arbitrarily deemed moral by the magical stamp of the senates lead stamper. Politics is just surface level noise — a boring nuisance that we are forced to entertain out of fear that the idiots (everyone else) will gain too much influence. Philosophy, though, philosophy is real.

If you claim to work 12+ hours a day, no one smart will ever take you seriously. 99% of the time, these "hard workers" are blatantly lying. The other 1% of the time, they are mentally unstable and/or deeply inefficient. Being perpetually busy is not a boast - be productive.

Do not allow yourself to be paralyzed by indecision. If you hesitate too long at the feast of opportunity, you may find the plates empty by the time you're ready to dine.

The Prime Minister/President or their party is mostly NOT responsible for increases or decreases in the inflation rate. "Inflation was worse under x" "Inflation was better under y" These points often reflect ignorance. 90% of voters don't understand the economy.

If chess as a game disappeared tomorrow I can't think of anything bad that would happen I feel a sense of frustration when seeing these highly capable people burn their time on chess, not necessarily because I think they ought to be working on rockets for NASA, but because it seems like they are taking a pretty self centred route through life fufiling all of their personal needs (ego, sense of identity etc) through something that is meaningless in the final analysis Not only is it meaningless for the players, but it’s also sucking attention away from the people who watch chess, who are probably smarter on average too

@JS__Quinn If your passion is for pushing pieces around a board, and people will pay you to do it, what do you need to justify? Who are you harming?

It seems to me that too many great minds are wasted on games like chess. Geniuses, moving little characters in a made up game instead of solving problems or creating spectacular things. It baffles me that they can justify it to themselves. Perhaps i’m ignorant to something.

Approach dialogue from a place of curiosity. Ask more questions. After you cut through your own virtue signaling, you may find that only a small fraction of your opinions are deeply considered and believed. Most people are in the "slightly agree/disagree" camp on most things.

@JS__Quinn @RaadTheShepherd In Islam, we don't have priests or religious leaders. Muslim scholars have the responsibility of conveying the truth from the Quran and Sunnah ONLY. Having a beard signals that such a scholar is stronger in faith (it's prohibited for men to shave the beard), thus more reliable.

Never take your religion from a man who shaves his beard.

The only way to prepare yourself for the certainty of involuntary suffering, is with voluntary suffering. Your body will fail you. Your mind may not. You don’t want to enter the fight as an amateur.

One of the faults of democracy is that aiming to win arguments is more effective at garnering votes than aiming to find solutions. These two aims require two entirely different modes of approach, the former not being particularly qualifying for running a country.
