@andrewhoyer Saw someone referred to that as Computer Mana ✨🪄 If you don't have enough Computer Mana, something won't work, but if you put it in front of someone with high enough Computer Mana, the issue doesn't stand a chance.

Do any other tech people experience the phenomenon where other people have some technical issue they can't figure out, but as soon as they bring it to you, it starts working?

@ezsmith397 I normally do hourly with ongoing clients but do project-based pricing on bigger jobs like full rebuilds. I still track my time on the project-based jobs, because then when I'm quoting the next one I can look back and be like "Oh ya, that only took me X hours to do"

I know hourly billing is a hot-button here on Design/Dev/Freelance Twitter... So I'm not gonna say anything about using that billing model (hey, you do you). But I will say this: tracking your time on tasks and projects is still critical. Without it, it's dang near impossible to reflect on things after they're done to know your true profitability. I use Harvest time tracking app, and have Clients and Projects all setup in there. It can be a pain to start and stop timers when you're switching between things BUT it helps me truly know how much time we're spending on each thing that's going out the door.

@ezsmith397 Any recommendations on where to start with WP CLI? Never used it before.

Using Claude AI to build custom WP-CLI commands to do bulk data cleanup is insane. Working with a ~30,000 dataset on this custom WP site build, where the data was not all properly formatted or sanitized in the old MySQL database. Been able to do cool things like: - Fix capitalization on First, Middle and Last Name fields. - Fix capitalization on States & Countries, mapping to a fixed list of options now vs. a free-form entry that was allowed previously Working with this large of a dataset has been a fun challenge honestly, learning a lot about different ways to manipulate the data in some but important ways for this site.

If you’re starting off rn and you think you can ChatGPT your way into a software career you’re gonna be fairly disappointed and disappoint others I can’t tell you the amount of times it’ll generate code and just hallucinate attributes that leave your entire file a problem. ChatGPT is great, but you 100% have to know how to program efficiently in order to correct it to your needs

IMO the best part about Neopets wasn't the flash games or the "tamagotchi" aspect, that was just the hook. The best part was the world building and market economy underneath the hood.
Matt Huang@matthuang

Dylan Field (@zoink) and I (@matthuang) have an idea for a Neopets-inspired crypto game, and we’re looking for 1-2 people to come build it with us. We have fun ideas for crypto-native game mechanics, and crypto infra has improved to the point of enabling them. Eg: High throughput and low cost L2s or app chains, better onboarding (Privy embedded wallets, Odyssey experiment-001), anti-sybil mechanisms (zkpassport, Worldcoin), NFT minting mechanisms (such as VRGDAs), and NFT-fi (marketplaces, lending, etc). We’re excited for what this could unlock for crypto gaming. If interested, please reach out. (Application form in next tweet).
