𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗛𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗧𝗛𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘? As an anecdote, last week, Joshua Maponga had an accident on his way to Kwekwe. Speaking from Arundel Hospital, he lamented the fact that after his accident, he spent over 4 hrs waiting by the roadside for emergency services on that stretch of road. Once the ambulance arrived, Maponga was taken to a private hospital called Arundel, owned by Kuda Tagwirei, all the way in Harare—skipping a number of government hospitals in Kwekwe, Chegutu and even Harare—simply because none of them could provide proper emergency care. Sanctions on Zimbabwe were removed on March 4, 2024, so why do we still not have adequate ambulances and emergency services in our public hospitals for any class of person to get quality care? The reason we fought to remove sanctions was to enable our government to sign lease agreements to lease ambulances with well‑resourced fleet managers in Zimbabwe or South Africa (they don’t have to buy them cash), so that we’d have enough ambulances in every town and city to save lives in emergencies. Our government can afford monthly instalments for a huge fleet of ambulances and fire trucks. We also did it so that our government could import the latest medical equipment from anywhere in the world, which they can do now since sanctions are gone. So where’s the problem? The problem is that since ZANU PF got another mandate in the 2023 elections and since sanctions were removed in March 2024, our leaders have spent more time focused on promoting 2030 than buying ambulances. So, how would you rate the President’s delivery on healthcare: excellent, good, fair, bad, or poor? Does he deserve a term extension?

Most vehicles on Zimbabwean roads were built for E5 or E10 at most. Most engines were never engineered for 20% ethanol. Ethanol carries roughly 34% less energy per litre than petrol, so a 20% blend delivers fewer kilometres per tank. You fill up more often, and each litre does less work. Meanwhile, Green Fuel's ethanol has historically been priced above import parity, insulated from any competitive pressure by preferential supply arrangements. Citizens therefore pay a premium per litre for a fuel that underperforms per litre. Every Zimbabwean motorist becomes a captive revenue source for a single politically connected ethanol producer, with their vehicle absorbing the mechanical cost and their wallet absorbing the energy cost. The Zimbabwean government is outsourcing a corporate subsidy to the public, collected silently at the pump.
ZBC News@ZBCNewsonline

#InCaseYouMissedIt #PostCabinetBriefing In a major move to cushion citizens against rising global costs, Government is set to increase the ethanol blending ratio from E5 to E20. #ZBCNews #FuelPrices #Zimbabwe #Economy

PLEASE SHARE🙏 | Neighbours in Mount Pleasant/Northwood, please be alert. There is a fuel thief in the area. A resident reported that the suspect came to their home on Pendennis Road (between ZUVA and Westcot) at around 11:16pm. He brought a ladder and looked over the gate, even facing one of the security cameras. He left and then returned at about 1:07am with the same ladder and a large fuel container. He stayed on the property for about 45 minutes, during which he was smoking and eating a guava while cutting and damaging pipes to steal diesel. He left at around 1:58am and walked up Pendennis Road towards Coull Drive. If anyone recognises the suspect, please send a private message. The matter will be reported to the police, and his image will be shared to help identify him. Please share this message so the community can stay alert and help catch the suspect. @PoliceZimbabwe

This profile that purports to be that of the President of Zimbabwe describes Wicknell Chivayo as "an astute and maverick young businessman" who donated ambulances. But what we know is that these ambulances are part of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) in partnerships with UN Agencies and the WHO. All African governments are receiving them under an aid programme.
President of Zimbabwe@edmnangagwa

This morning at State House, I had the distinct pleasure of receiving a generous donation of 10 brand new, state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with the latest medical technologies including respirators, oxygen delivery systems, defibrillators and advanced patient monitoring units. These ambulances were formally handed over to the Minister of Health and Child Care for onward distribution across all Provinces to strengthen emergency response capacity and improve access to critical healthcare services. In addition, I handover 200,000 litres of diesel, which will directly support the effective deployment and sustained operation of these life-saving units. This donation has been made possible through the generosity of an astute and maverick young businessman @wicknellchivayo who has a golden heart and continues to tirelessly support various key Government programmes under Vision 2030, which is anchored on modern healthcare systems that leave “No one and No place behind”. I extend my sincere appreciation to @wicknellchivayo for this gesture, which exemplifies the critical role of the private sector in complementing Government’s efforts to deliver quality service delivery in the health sector. Such partnerships between Government and indigenous businesses reaffirm my administration’s matra that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, and I urge other businesspeople within the private sector to emulate this gesture and exemplary conduct. My Administration remains resolute in its focus on strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring that Zimbabwe transitions to world-class health standards as we advance towards an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

Here is a question from Doug Coltart "If we allow members of parliament to temper with the constitution & amend it today by extending the term duration by 2 years, what will guarantee is there that, at the end of that term they will not extend again by another 10 years" 🤔🤔🤔

WATCH | Hi, please kindly help share this incident that happened at Manshu Guest House in Mabelreign. In the early hours of this morning, around 00:30, three armed robbers raided the guest house. They broke down every door in the house and poison€d all four dogs. They also broke into the gardener’s cottage and took him away. As of now, the gardener is still missing. The robbers were masked and attack€d a woman who works there. They demanded money but only found $11.50 belonging to the workers. They then forced her to open all the doors and stole all the keys. They caused a lot of damage but left with almost nothing. This was a very traumatic experience. Please alert everyone in Mabelreign, as a similar incident recently happened where a worker was kiIIed. @PoliceZimbabwe

Innscor's Financial Results: It Takes Money to Make Money By Tinashe Mukogo In October, I wrote about Innscor's results in "Money Never Sleeps." The story was about incredible revenue growth. A billion-dollar company growing at 19%. But there was a problem. Profitability was slipping. Margins had fallen from around 15% a few years back to 9%. Six months later, the margins appear to be coming back. EBITDA, a type of operating profit, grew 37%. What changed? Over the past few years, Innscor has poured money into new factories, new capacity, and new products. For a while, those decisions were hurting profitability. Now, those same decisions appear to be paying off. Let's unpack! What Innscor's numbers tell us about Zimbabwe Before we get into the details, let's think about what these results mean at a high level. Innscor makes bread, flour, pork, chicken, snacks, and drinks. Basic consumer goods. People buy them because they need to eat. So when volumes are up 28% in bread, 71% in snacks, 32% in pork, and 33% in pasta, that is broad-based demand. From a first principles perspective, you do not get that kind of volume growth unless there is more money circulating in the economy. It may not feel that way, especially if it is not circulating into your pocket. But the trend we are seeing with companies like Delta, Econet, and others is that there is more economic activity than we would think. So some of what is driving Innscor's improvement is the environment. But not all of it. The capital allocation payoff A business is ultimately the sum total of every capital allocation decision it has ever made. Where you put your money, when, and how much. Innscor's annual capex went from US$8 million in 2020 to over US$70 million by 2024. New bakery lines. New piggeries. New snack factories. New brewing capacity. It takes money to make money. But there is always a gap between spending it and seeing the returns. For Innscor, that gap appears to be closing, with EBITDA rising from US$58.8 million to US$80.4 million. The Mill-Bake division, which includes National Foods, the Bakery division, Nutrimaster, and Profeeds, was the biggest contributor, adding US$11.3 million of extra EBITDA. The new automated bakery line in Harare, which was still under construction last time, is now running. Loaf volumes are up 28% with better efficiency. The Snacks division grew 71% on capacity that was already paid for. National Foods' flour volumes grew 13%. Yet again, increases in volumes across the board. Protein was the turnaround story, adding US$7.8 million. Two years ago, Innscor invested heavily in its piggeries at Triple C Pigs. That seems to be now delivering results. Colcom's volumes jumped 32% (people must have really been braaiing). More product through the same factories means fixed costs spread across more units. The segment's margin doubled from 3.9% to 7.8%. This is a big shift from last time, when Colcom's volumes were actually down 3% after the reclassification of pork from VAT exempt to standard-rated, which put formal operators at a disadvantage to non-compliant competitors. Together, these two segments delivered US$19 million of the total US$21.5 million improvement. Is this sustainable, and the Tanganda play There should still be room for improvement. As mentioned last time, the beverage business is most likely still not operating at full capacity. And with the potential of Tanganda being added to the books, there may be more opportunities ahead. Innscor recently took up a 27% stake through its subsidiary Rutanhi Beverages, which underwrote Tanganda's US$8 million rights issue. Now, Tanganda isn't yet an Innscor subsidiary, but they have already indicated they plan to make an offer to minorities to buy them out. That 27% is like a deposit on a house. You don't put it down unless you have serious intentions.
