On the other: a court dictating exactly when and how a global streamer can raise prices — with retroactive refunds — could make services think twice before launching in certain markets. Less competition = worse for everyone in the long run. ⚖️📺

A court in Rome has ruled that Netflix broke the rules when it raised prices on Italian subscriptions between 2017 and early 2024. The judge said Netflix was not allowed to increase prices whenever it wanted without giving customers proper notice and clear reasons. Long-time Premium users could get back up to about 500€. Standard plan users might get around 250€ Netflix must also lower its current prices by the unfair amount added. Netflix says it will appeal the decision.
