@NobodyIsOurGuy @vesper_118 Exactly. To go with The RE example if they truly cared primarily about art they would have remade 6, maybe 5 before even considering 4 (even though they sold well, and have the best Mercenaries mode, they're easily the weakest campaigns)

@vesper_118 Never played it but I'll take your word for it. I just wish companies would remake games that sucked instead of ones that sold in the millions. Obviously it's logical to remake a successful game for financial purposes, but there's a lot of dogshit that could end up being good.

I might get clowned, but I'm unironically a "The remake can't exist without the original" guy. 99% of remakes are of games that were successful. The OG already contributed to the industry, so a remake just stands on its shoulders. It's just commodification of art.

I've yet to see a remake that surpasses the original. The Resident Evil 1 remake is as close as we'll get, and even that one falls short.

@NobodyIsOurGuy I'd argue the only artistically valid reason to remake a game is if it's truly meant to replace the original (mainly because the game is subpar). For example nobody looks at Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge or Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate and thinks they still need the original.

The more acclaimed a vn is, the more likely I am to pirate it because it’s probably trash. Especially if someone recommends me something, 100% chance I’m going to pirate it. MAYBE i’ll eventually pay for it if it’s actually good, but if it’s not then it SHOULD be a financial flop
