There was a lot of time to think. Cold early weeks meant long nights in the tent. Later, warmer evenings brought space to sit and reflect. Somewhere along the way this became a hard stop; the end of one phase of life, and the start of another. #NoMapAcrossNepal #Reflection #Nepal

I walked much of Nepal virtually alone. Sometimes the terrain wasn’t safe; but the people always were. Friendly, welcoming, and generous everywhere I went.

At around 3,500m, this shy family let me pitch my tent beside their house, invited us to sit by their fire, and gave us vegetables for the road. From a 114‑day walk across Nepal, west to east, without a map.

The pollution just trapped over Kathmandu valley from elsewhere. Not fair. 😷 I checked multiple forecasts: AirVisual, AccuWeather, Google’s weather card and they all pointed to the same thing: light rain today. Nothing happened. ‼️‼️ Are forecasts getting harder because climate patterns are becoming less predictable? If the atmosphere is shifting faster than the models can adapt, maybe the misses will become more common. 🤯 Also, we keep hearing about how powerful AI is. Fine. 😮‍💨 Here’s a practical challenge: improve hyper-local weather prediction in complex terrain like mountain valleys. Not another chatbot, not another image generator just tell us if it’s actually going to rain. ❓❓❓ #ai #weatherprediction #climatechange

I took very few photographs; but I was always looking. Each day on a 114‑day walk across Nepal, I tried to take just one portrait. This was one of those moments.

Narrow, exposed trail, beautiful, but with no margin for error. Then cattle, goats and buffalo round the bend, and you step aside. Always. They have right of way. Forthcoming book about walking across Nepal, title to be confirmed, later this year. #Nepal #Trekking

Mini and Raksha are the best! Such impressive guys!

I couldn’t have done this without them. Mini Lama Tamang and Rakcha Lama Tamang (cousins from Dhading) walked the entire way with me, often carrying 45kg, doing all the cooking, and never losing their humour. Strong. Loyal. Capable. This journey was shared.

Almost everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and genuinely pleased to see us. I tried to make a portrait each day; because this journey was about people, not landscapes. These images are part of the story that will become a book later this year.

What an honor and a wonderful experience it was for me to be able to trek with @JohnnyFennPhoto for just a week of this adventure! I will never forget that feeling of likely being the first non Nepali some of these kids had ever seen! Wonderful photos from an amazing adventure.

The masonry reminds me of farmhouses in remote Scotland or Wales in mountains. But the woodwork is pure Nepal
