@conservmillen So it’s not enough to deport illegals; it’s don’t let those kinds of people in? Allowing legal immigration from these places doesn’t mean letting everyone in. If ICE can determine dangerous illegals why are they incapable of determining who is a safe immigrant from these places.

“It’s the compassionate thing to do!” Well, it would also be compassionate for you to allow all the homeless people from your city live in your house. But it would also be stupid. And evil, because you’d be endangering your children by doing so. This is not hard.
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

There is no coherent argument against a blanket ban on all third world immigration. Nobody can explain how such a policy would harm the United States, because obviously it wouldn't. There is literally no downside. It's all upside. And we all know it.

@JonRandall @EWErickson That is absolutely not a thing I said and something I took special pains to be clear I was NOT saying in response to posts about Piper. Piper is not mentioned here. So why would you make? So why would you make that assumption?

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness [except if it is related to what people are upset about on Twitter, and then you better not quote it]”
Josh Daws@JoshDaws

This passage is repeatedly abused by leftists for the purpose of emotionally manipulating Christians. It’s such a problem that @alisa_childers had to address it in a video a few weeks BEFORE the Piper controversy. To casually toss it out there without proper explanation is negligent at best.

@megbasham What “conservative” are you wanting? There is a difference between politically and Christian conservative. You can believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, substitionary atonement, marriage as 1 man 1 woman and still not agree with MAGA.

It seems a fairly obvious that much of the faculty of even those allegedly conservative seminaries are more progressive and more woke than the ordinary Christian in the pew. This, in turn, often leads to the pastor in the pulpit being more progressive and more woke than the church member he is shepherding. Do you think this is true? What do you think are the causes of it if so? And what do we do about it?

@megbasham He didn’t say don’t wield power. He said don’t wield power the way the world does. If you don’t think power will tempt you to wield it the wrong way, you literally are rejecting how our country was built. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. @philvischer

Once again, this is a category error. Phil is assuming that for the sake of evangelism Christians should not wield power in their country. But that doesn’t work for a representative republic. In our system, we as citizens are given the responsibility to set laws and select leaders. That’s wielding political power. There’s nothing sinful about that. Especially when you’re wielding power for the good. In fact, I would say it is a sin to NOT uphold your civic responsibilities in the way that the constitution grants – – free association, free speech, and selecting leaders who best represent our interests. I mean, Esther sought and gained a position of political power, And she used it for the good of her people. Should we condemn that use of power?
Phil Vischer@philvischer

The fatal error of most strains of Christian Nationalism occurs when we look at the way the world wields power (through domination & coercion), and instead of rejecting it, we envy it. We believe we can accomplish God's ends through the world's means. We want the ring.

@MikeCosper I appreciate you and you’re not a leftist. But if Grok is right you haven’t tweeted as much about the problems on the left. I don’t know your personal philosophy on using X, but I would say your criticism of the left is assumed on the Bulletin and not always explicitly stated.

What is your worst writing habit? My worst writing habit is passive voice. It became natural over time (I don't know why), and retraining yourself after more than a decade of writing—especially at forty—is harder than it should be.

@DDFStrand @DennyBurk @between2worlds @CovenanttCutt @JohnPiper There are no categories when it comes to love of Jesus(Luke 14:26). It is all or nothing when it comes to the Lord. Sure, we can love our family, neighbor, nation, culture in proper order, but that should look like hate compared to our love of Jesus. This is basic discipleship.

@DennyBurk @between2worlds @CovenanttCutt @JohnPiper I disagree. He’s being categorical and leaves little to no room for other loves. That’s not ordered love. That’s not leaving space for other loves. It’s all or nothing. “Any whiff.” Ordered loves leaves room for lesser loves such as family, nation, culture etc.

@JoshuaReich @megbasham Come on guys. There are multiple men and one woman at this. You’re telling me that doesn’t qualify as teaching people “together?” Apollos then literally goes out to teach from the scriptures. You’re telling me Pricilla and Aquila had no impact on that or anything to teach him?

The pushback on this is stunning and expected. Learn to preach from a woman? More than half of your church are women. It might help to know how to best reach them and preach to them. Who better to help with that than a woman? Also, there are women in the church who know things men don’t about the Bible. There are also women in the church who know know more than men (and their pastors) about the Bible, and we should have the humility to learn from the smartest people in evangelicalism.

@jonharris1989 @justinifountain Isn’t David technically a passive leader here? If he would have dealt with Ammon for raping Tamar he could have avoided Absalom’s rebellion. Not saying his revolt was justified, but David’s not innocent here either.

Recent 9Marks podcast. Jim Hamilton said election results shouldn’t cause Christians to no longer get along. Think about this if it were in another realm- Let’s say some Christians make a very bad decision in electing a new pastor who abuses his position. Would that affect your relationship with them? Yes, bad decisions Christians make can break trust and cause division. I don’t think fighting Absolom and having a different relationship with his former supporters was idolatry. Some things do break trust.

Who said this about the far Left/Right? "They are both obsessed with identity politics. They are both racist. They are both lonely and desperate for attention. They both lack purpose or direction in their lives. They both could have used stronger male role models growing up."

I'm sharing these quotes because *I* wasn't clear on how Tim Keller defined "third-wayism." FWIW, it's fine to critique "third-wayism" (see my forthcoming article). It's also fine to critique Keller. But if you're critiquing "Keller's third-wayism," show how he defined it!

"Christians should never seek a middle ground for its own sake, but should take positions that do justice to the Biblical teaching, regardless of whether the world sees you—in its categories—as an extremist or a moderate.” Who said it?

@GatorDave_SEC This does confirm that he values process more than winning. He lacks the “do whatever it takes to win” on game day and just hopes that practice=winning. I wish we could have combined Napier with Mullen. It would prolly would have made a good coach.

@ericmetaxas What an unfair/misguided take on gospel centrality. Keller & others never argued a mushy middle. Truth is to be stood for even if it’s controversial. It just doesn’t fit neatly into MAGA or liberalism. You destroy evangelism when you try to make it fit.

This is the evil temptation of the "Gospel-centric" movement. You pretend you can reduce Christianity to "the Gospel" and abandon everything but "evangelism", never standing for truth on controversial issues. You destroy the witness of the Church in the name of "evangelism".

@ZachWLambert I would not say it’s required for salvation either, but I feel like you have more issues with it than that. I don’t think penal substitution is wrong and has solid basis in the scriptures just like ransom and satisfaction.

@JonRandall 1. Ransom Theory is very different from PSA. 2. I’m not throwing shade at it for being young. I’m saying that claiming PSA as necessary for “true Christianity” renders the vast majority of Christians throughout history outside of the faith.

Penal substitutionary atonement is about 500 years old in origin, 200 in popular belief, and still widely discredited outside of Western evangelicalism. So if you believe penal substitutionary atonement is necessary for faith, then you also believe the folks who made up the first 1800 years of the worldwide church (and the majority of the church outside of Western evangelicalism still today) aren’t Christians.

@ZachWLambert I agree that Christus Victor is the main one, but vicarious atonement is just as old and laid a foundation for penal substitution. And if we are throwing shade on something being new/not widely accepted then the scapegoat theory fits that too.
