Here is what Duke's IRP preferred portfolio was in their last IRP in 2021.
Notice that their previous IRP had them adding ~3,800 MW of renewables by 2035. Now that has been cut to less than 600 MW.
This is a disaster for ratepayers and the environment.

In regards to #2, it means that customers will pay twice as much so Duke can build twice as much gas capacity, and then run each unit less than half of the time.
This doesn't reduce emissions, it just increases costs to ratepayers! 😡

For context, Duke currently gets 96% of its electricity from fossil fuels in Indiana, mostly coal, and as a result of this foolhardy strategy, it is seeking a record-shattering $42/month bill increase on residential customers. x.com/Ben_Inskeep/st…

Duke is the biggest renewable energy laggard in Indiana, with more than 96% of electricity generation currently coming from fossil fuels. Shockingly, Duke is proposing to massively *increase* coal-fired generation over the next two years.

Duke's preferred plan includes nearly 3,000 MW of new combined cycle natural gas power plants built over the next 8 years.
In contrast, it plans to build *less than 600 MW of renewable energy* before 2035.
This is one of the most depressing utility resource plans I have seen.

In five years, the outlook for natural gas demand in 2040 has halved in the IEA Stated Policies scenario.
