VAR has no authority to re-referee subjective situations, or to replace the referee’s on-field judgement in cases like this, its role is strictly limited, and that limit was completely ignored. This stands as one of the most severe misapplications of VAR at the highest level of football, the consequences are decisive, a converted penalty in that moment would have fundamentally changed the course of the match. Decisions like this do not just affect results, they seriously undermine the integrity of the game.

Après avoir vu la VAR M. l'arbitre annule le penalty, mais il ne met pas carton jaune pour simulation. C'est une DINGUERIE !!!!!

Sur cette action la VAR a statué sur le barrage de Koke avec cet angle de caméra , mais le problème était le joueur qui pousse Olmo dans le dos. Et c’était visible avec l’autre angle de caméra…

Referee Maurizio Mariani pointed to the penalty spot after he adjudged Alexis Mac Allister was brought down by Pacho, but VAR sent him to the screen. After review, the referee changed his mind and decided it was not a penalty at the Kop end. There wasn't a lot of contact, but was it really a clear and obvious error?
