One of the more thoughtful pieces about the 10,000 year clock, its purpose, and one of the greatest perks of my day job: being able to sit around a campfire with some deeply interesting people. noemamag.com/keeping-time-i…

Elon Musk can't help himself when it comes to tweeting, and his opinions on many matters are gross and/or deeply misguided, and thus him owning Twitter and taking all the guardrails off it has come back to bite him once again. sfist.com/2023/11/17/elo…

I'm confused. is it the dyed hair? the tattoos? the floral brooches? a general "abuser physiognomy?" I think the brooches are quite lovely. I would steal them from him

Cormac McCarthy has died at the age of 89. In 2012, we detailed what we learned from the Cormac McCarthy Papers. The archives gave us a unique look inside the working method of an artist who spoke little about his own work. slate.trib.al/Gev8BWD

Talk shit about the “decline” of San Francisco all you want but the vibes of taking a day off and enjoying a pint at Zeitgeist on a sunny Monday are still unbeatable and unchanged after 20 years.

@punished3liza It can be handy! Although my favorite certification I hold is still “able seaman - special” because it sounds mildly dirty.

ive always been curious, what are some professional certifications you can get JUST by taking a test? no work hours or schooling required but literally walk in, take the test, walk out

Sam Altman says he wants to be regulated—and he wants you to believe AI could destroy the world. We're in the middle of a hype cycle. Here's why you should be skeptical about the entire conversation
ABC News Live@ABCNewsLive

Open A.I. CEO Sam Altman is testifying as lawmakers grapple with this intelligence: @jayobtv: "He wants their help to regulate this technology." @thomasgermain: we haven't seen A.I "capable of replacing human critical thinking...I don't think it's quite time to panic, yet."

@jefposk @peterhartlaub @rachelswan @marilyn4alameda Yeah! A friend used to drive that ferry. I get that ferries are different than good bike infrastructure from the jump, but it seems like such a clear solution for the estuary. I just don’t get the hostility I’ve seen from the bike folks towards sailors at these meetings.

This @rachelswan reporting gets deep into the complex Alameda/Oakland bike bridge debate. I’m in the “I support it but seems like a huge longshot” camp (the Coast Guard is such a huge hurdle) but greatly appreciate what a strong bike advocate we have in @marilyn4alameda. 🚴💯
San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle

A movable bicycle and pedestrian bridge that would cost at least $200 million to build has stirred controversy in this Bay Area city. If the politics are tense, the logistics are just as daunting. trib.al/buKvidT
