New @NANOGrav paper! We targeted 114 AGN to ask if specific galaxies host supermassive black hole binaries — getting ~2x better constraints. Two sources stood out, so we built a detection protocol. We named them Rohan and Gondor. The beacons are lit!🏔️🏔️🔥 news.yale.edu/2026/02/05/bea…

Our study of #GW230814 is out arxiv.org/abs/2509.07348 We can precisely test general relativity with this loud signal. Most tests show agreement with Einstein's theory, but some… The deviations can be explained by detector noise. Having multiple detectors is important! #GWTC4

Fortunately, it turns out there are actually some workarounds to running longer simulations, such as hybridizing numerical waveforms with post-Newtonian waveforms. But we still need to improve our accuracy! We hope that new codes, like SpECTRE, will achieve this tricky feat! 5/5

Vertical dashed lines show typical SNRs (top axis) of loud events for each detector; if a simulation is left of this line, it is accurate and long enough for analyses. Consequently, for future detectors, like CE/ET/LISA, we need more accurate and longer simulations! 4/n

A massive congratulations to the SXS Collaboration! While this work is certainly a milestone in simulating binary black hole mergers, I think it is also particularly humbling: there is still much more to be done to prepare ourselves for future gravitational wave detections! 1/n

A recent paper led by SXS members Yoonsoo Kim and Elias Most (both at Caltech) is in @AASNova today! This work explores the formation of strongly magnetized "monster" shocks and a transient "black hole pulsar" state from mergers of a magnetized neutron star and a black hole.
