At the African Pastoralists Women Gathering (APWG-IYRP 2026) in Kampala, Uganda, IMPACT Kenya joins a continental conversation on the future of Africa’s rangelands and the leadership of pastoralist women. The voices here will shape momentum for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026 and discussions toward UNCCD COP17 in Mongolia. @Misereor @NiaTero #APWG2026 #IYRP2026 #UNCCDCOP17

Sometimes resilience begins with something simple — water storage. In Laikipia, IMPACT Kenya is supporting women’s groups with water tanks to strengthen resilience to climate change. Less time searching for water means more time for livelihoods and stronger household wellbeing. #ClimateResilience #watersecurity

When communities lead in managing their land, restoration goes beyond an intervention. In Lpus Community Land, Samburu, 180 community members are restoring degraded rangelands as part of IMPACT Kenya’s work to strengthen resilience. With early rains already received, if the season holds — what could this mean for rangeland recovery?#RangelandRestoration #CommunityResilience

What does progress look like for women and girls when access to justice still feels distant? As part of International Women’s Day 2026, IMPACT Kenya held conversations with women in Samburu on the realities shaping their lives. Issues often dismissed as “common,” like teenage pregnancy, remain deeply real — alongside the long and discouraging journey many survivors face when seeking justice. IWD is not only about celebration, but listening and strengthening systems that protect women and girls. #InternationalWomensDay2026 #AccessToJustice #WomenAndGirls #Accountability

What do five goats mean to a pastoralist household? In Leparua, it means a chance to rebuild. IMPACT Kenya restocked 250 climate-resilient Galla goats to 50 households, helping women and families restart livelihoods. As we mark International Women's Day under the theme #GiveToGain, we’re reminded: when women gain access to assets, communities grow stronger. @Misereor

This #InternationalWomensDay2026 is more than a celebration—it’s about access to rights and justice. On 9 March,@IMPACTKeny and @HakiKNCHR will host an IWD celebration and #LegalAidCaravan in Samburu County. The conversation will also extend to the airwaves through a Radio Ashe (106.5 FM) talk show, helping bring legal awareness and dialogue to an even wider audience. Because when women know their rights, justice becomes a lived reality. #InternationalWomensDay #HumanRights @RadioAshe

Access to water is not just infrastructure — it’s dignity, stability, and self-determination. The Bulesa Borehole in Chari Community Land reflects what happens when communities and county leadership move from consultation to shared responsibility. Resilience is built together. 💧 @Misereor

What does peace look like when communities are not only heard, but actively involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives? For Nicholas Lesokoiyo, a community elder from Isiolo, peace is found in honest conversation and shared responsibility. It is when elders, youth, and women can speak openly about the realities they face, and know their voices will help guide what comes next. It is in these spaces of accountability that communities move from being passive recipients to active custodians of their future. The Social Accountability Forum exists to protect that space — where listening becomes action, and where peace is strengthened through participation.

"When supporting communities in the development of their land use plans, guide the leadership and larger community to include youth's needs. We borrow the land, we don't own it, just as the elders did with their parents. That is what inclusivity is."- setek frank, community member, Nkiloriti Community land Inclusivity in decision making, Transparency in processes and Accountability in action. Today stakeholders have come together during our second annual Community Feedback and Social Accountability Forum to share progress, lessons, and future plans — openly and directly with the stakeholders it serves and to listen, learn, unlearn and recalibrate our interventions. Accountability strengthens trust. Trust strengthens impact.

In pastoralist communities, land holds memory, livelihood, and identity. Women have always sustained this relationship — managing resources, preserving knowledge, and holding communities together. Across Marsabit ,these conversations continue to shape the future of community land governance; there is growing recognition that secure land rights and peaceful coexistence cannot be separated from the full inclusion of women’s leadership and lived experience. #womeninleadership #landrights @PastoralistPeoplesInitiative
