@Tongrongtian @CACR_NZ @jaimee_stuart Interesting question! We did not investigate the difference in MPP scores between majority and minority group students at each university. But, in a subsequent study, we found a slightly lower mean MPP score among international students compared to those reported in this paper.

@CACR_NZ @KimInkuk @jaimee_stuart Congrats! I'm curious if majority/minority-group students at each university rated MPP differently. For example, Starck et al. (2021) notes how diversity policies in America often favor majority-group students.

Causal Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) are like chainsaws: used well, they slice through heavy tasks; used poorly, and you might lose a limb.
Here's the first of four tutorials in @Journal_EHS for human scientists new to causal inference:
cambridge.org/core/journals/…
Tips:
- Understand that causal inference involves a larger workflow that starts by stating a clear causal question & target population.
- Understand that larger workflow. E.g. consider you must also address positivity & causal consistency assumptions.
- Your DAG is a tool to clarify unmeasured confounding, not a paintbrush for describing all reality.
- Group common causes, let the spatial arrangement reflect chronological order.
- Like time's arrow, ensure your DAG doesn't loop back.
- When in doubt, present multiple DAGs.
- There's lots of other material I reference in the article. I got my start from @_MiguelHernan's course, which is *free* here: edx.org/learn/data-ana…
In later posts, I'll describe my other tutorials and why I'm so passionate about causal inference. The full special issue with lots of great work is here. Thanks to @EffersonCharles @tavitonst for driving it:

In our close replication of Feygina et al.'s (2010) important work on system-sanctioned change, we found that promoting pro-environmentalism as a way to maintain the current system wasn’t enough to encourage meaningful environmental action.
Open access: rips-irsp.com/articles/10.53…

Is system preservation framing more effective at promoting pro-environmental responses among people high in system justification?
See our close replication and extension of Feygina et al. (2010, Study 3) in @irsp_rips.

Last week, the CACR team - Joseph Bulbulia (@prof_joe_), Marc Wilson, JohnMark Kempthorne (@JohnKempthorne), and Inkuk Kim (@KimInkuk) - delivered insightful presentations at the 2023 Society of Australasian Social Psychologists (SASP) conference in Noosa. Fantastic work!

Still can't quite believe I was one of the lucky ones awarded a DECRA this year. Very grateful to @arc_gov_au, my mentors & ECR friends for their support. Wish there was enough funding to support all the excellent researchers with great ideas that didn't get funded this time.

Just got my ticket to the lottery that is DECRA 2024. Wishing my fellow ECRs who have applied some good luck (and a nap).

Our CACR PhD student Trâm Nguyễn Thị Bảo (@TramNguyenTBao) has successfully passed her PPA (Proposal Presentation Assessment) today with a presentation titled "Grief at a distance: Understanding migrants' grief during COVID-19". Congrats!

In their #replication attempt, Kim et al. (@SocialPsychBull, 2023) found no evidence for the effectiveness of using messages based on #bindingmorals in promoting conservatives’ #proenvironmental engagement. OA article + data here: spb.psychopen.eu/index.php/spb/…

This preregistered study (n = 705) did not replicate the finding that environmental messages become more convincing for conservatives when they appeal to binding moral values (e.g., ingroup loyalty). @TacianoMilfont

@rhea_arini @TacianoMilfont @bxjaeger @SocialPsychBull @WellingtonUni @waikato @PsychWaikato This paper cannot reject all moral reframing effects. It suggests that simply framing environmental messages with the wording from binding morals may not be sufficient to induce more conservative people’s pro-environmental behaviours.
English

@TacianoMilfont @bxjaeger @KimInkuk @SocialPsychBull @WellingtonUni @waikato @PsychWaikato Based on this research, are you skeptical about moral reframing as a strategy to promote behavioural change in general, or only when moral reframing is applied to environmental issues?

Thanks for the post @bxjaeger. This was part of the PhD research by @KimInkuk published in the increadible open journal Social Psychological Bulletin @SocialPsychBull

@drjennycole @TacianoMilfont @ashgillis7 @Sander_vdLinden @michaelvandenb6 Sure. I will let you know my thoughts after reading it.
English

@KimInkuk @TacianoMilfont @ashgillis7 @Sander_vdLinden @michaelvandenb6 Would love to hear your thoughts especially given our US focus vs. your international focus. Most of the lit we found was US or Western Europe-based so there's a lot of opportunity for exploring these ideas in the collectivist/global east or south

Excited to share a preprint of our new article, conditionally accepted at Perspectives on Psychological Science. A synthesis of social psych literature on political polarization, applied to climate change, w/ @ashgillis7 @Sander_vdLinden @michaelvandenb6! psyarxiv.com/xz6wk
