What you don’t know is that it was completely preventable. It’s hard not to be angry when I knew him long enough to be in car crashes with him and knew he drove under the influence and would put his passengers in danger because we wouldn’t know until he crashed. His death and his friend’s death was a classic case of teens feeling invincible.

Two years ago today, I woke up to seven missed phone calls and texts from various people about my friend. While reading through the missed messages, I found out my friend of ten years died earlier that morning in a car crash. He and his friend were racing and his truck flipped with them inside. The crash was so severe, they had to cremate him for burial because there was nothing identifiable left of his body. Drive safe. People will miss you.
