The forum provided a platform to reflect on cases, share lessons, and identify gaps in legal aid delivery across informal settlements including Mathare, Kibra, and Kawangware, with a focus on strengthening a referral pathways for survivors of human rights violations.

Our Programme Officer, Jimmy Sayi, contributed to a panel on #rights4land monitoring, discussing case studies from the Kenyan perspective that utilised the tool in collaboration with #LSNSA to produce research on land assessment in Kenya, bridging laws and lived experiences.

Kituo participated in a two-day workshop convened by the @FAO and @TMG_think on Land, Rights and Justice: Advancing Human Rights-Based Land Governance. The convening brought together public institutions and CSO actors from Sierra Leone, Malawi, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Kituo Cha Sheria has filed an appeal on behalf of the 1998 Nairobi U.S. Embassy bombing victims, challenging the High Court’s dismissal of their compensation case. For decades, survivors have borne loss without justice. This appeal renews the push for accountability and justice.

We guided on the nature of cases handled by the court, how to file claims, and how to track and follow up on cases using the e-Judiciary mobile App. We also screened and documented individuals in need of legal support to facilitate assistance in their journey to access justice.

We conducted a legal aid and community sensitization together with Stretchers Youth organisation in Changamwe, Mombasa to educate residents on how they can resolve small claims arising from chamas, business transactions, and debt-related disputes through the Small Claims Court.

Yesterday, Kituo joined partners for a sensitisation meeting with refugee communities in Kawangware, promoting meaningful dialogue and connection. During the engagement, we shared our vision, mission, mandate, and the legal aid services available to support access to justice.

The conference focuses on strengthening access to justice through the integration of traditional and community-based dispute resolution mechanisms with formal justice systems. It provides a platform for sharing best practices, promoting human rights and gender equality.

Yesterday, Kituo joined the #MissingVoices Coalition for the launch of its 2025 report, in honor of the International Day for the Right to the Truth. The report highlights a concerning rise in police killings and enforced disappearances, an increase of about 20% from 2024.
