Kurds are not just a people; they are a conscience that refuses to collapse despite betrayal. Throughout history, we have been abandoned, sold out, and massacred… Yet we have never bowed. We Kurds are not vampires. We are not a people fed by blood and tears — we are a nation left alone in the heart of the Middle East. Among us are Muslims, Christians, Armenians, Yazidis, and Assyrians. Different faiths, but united by a shared pain. They drew maps on our land and split us into four parts: Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. For nearly 100 years, we have lived under denial, oppression, and massacres by these four states. Because we are not Arab enough. Not Turkish enough. Not Iranian enough. We have been condemned to racism, erasure, and death. The West and Europe made promises to stop ISIS — they gave money, weapons, and support — but Kurds paid the price. More than 15,000 Kurds sacrificed their lives for humanity. Today, @SenBlumenthal and I introduced the Save the Kurds Act. I believe that there is strong bipartisan support for the idea of protecting the Kurds in Syria and beyond because they have been such a reliable ally to the United States. The SDF – with a large Kurdish element – took the brunt of the fight to defeat ISIS in President Trump’s first term. I realize Syria is complicated culturally, ethnically and politically. However, attacking the Kurds greatly diminishes the United States’ standing and will hinder Syria’s ability to grow as a country. CPT IK has documented and verified the report of a Kurdish civilian who has been beheaded by Forces of the Syrian Government in Raqqah On January 18 the Kurdish men Rashid Mohammed who worked as a cook attempted to flee from Raqqah (Mansoura) but he was stopped and kidnapped by Syrian Government forces. He has been beheaded and his body shows marks of torture. Rashid Mohammed is originally from Afrin, he had been displaced from there due to the invasion and occupation of Afrin by the Turkish military.
