Its time for Tyrell Hatton to take charge of the Majesticks. I've said it. He had done enough at the majors and on LIV to warrant taking over the now all English team either at mid season or for next year. The current equity holders arent doing much for the team competition wise and Tyrell will give it a major boost and gravitas. They can attract better sponsors and have a greater competitive edge going forward. Let's make it happen @livgolf

🚨🤯BREAKING: Crushers release statement regarding Bryson DeChambeau at the Masters
“Dear fans, we regret to inform you that after extensive internal discussion, multiple emergency board meetings, and what can only be described as a highly emotional decision-making process, the Crushers have come to a shocking conclusion about the future direction of our team… we’re going to be fully locked in and extremely excited watching Bryson at the Masters. Happy April Fools.”

I'll push back a bit. His statement that LIV doesn’t weigh the strength of golf courses particularly high on its decision scale isn’t completely inaccurate, but it doesn’t capture the true reality. To much context obviously isn't as sexy as a regurgitated talking point, so it's moderately excusable. Yet I question whether that statement was an attempt at true constructive criticism or a negative advertisement and self-fulfilling prophecy that LIV golf can never be for golf fans, so why would they even try?
LIV has chosen some very traditional and golf-centric locations in the past yet received zero credit for doing so. For example, Doral, which will now be back on the Tour schedule and I'm sure will suddenly be praised once again for its stern golf examination.
Another thing that needs highlighting is that, especially in America, LIV is still challenged to find courses that aren’t already bullied into compliance by the Tour. The Tour itself produces contests many weeks out of the year that result in the same degree of low difficulty. Not every Tour stop is built to be a true test; the TPC network has proven that when the Tour gets to design and build golf courses, a majority produce birdie barrages. (This is as much a trend in the modern game as anything, but I digress.)
All that is to say, given the choice, I think LIV is happy to blend both when available. I'd point to JCB and Valderrama as great examples: two locations with great turnout and great golf. The events in Asia are at great golf courses, but attendance has been tepid yet growing. LIV, like any business, approaches much of this from a bottom-line perspective and has shown overall that its best characteristic as an organization is adaptability. If “golfer golf courses” is proven to be a model that brings them success, they will do so. Now if they can just fix the barrier set by the golf community trying to keep them from that success.

I recently said that TGL and Skratch golf have the greatest salespeople on the planet and I stand by that statement. I believe it more now than ever before.

Liv Golf breaks record turn out. So we put together a small thread of what some of the crowd sizes looked like at Steyn City.

@BroncosOutside Coincidentally, the last 2 are profitable.

Just absolutely huge that LIV Golf now has 2 colossal tournaments!
Colossal crowds - Adelaide, South Africa
Huge crowds - JCB, Hong Kong
Great crowds - Mexico City, Mid-West USA, Andalucia
Needs to Grow - Korea, Eastern USA
Tiny - Singapore, Riyadh
And about the bottom 2, LIV has done a nice job of making those 2 unique despite the small crowds... Singapore is the best golf course that LIV plays on all year, and Riyadh is played under the lights, which is awesome. I believe that growth will continue to happen in all of these areas, and hopefully South America is added to the list!

Last week Eamon Lynch wrote a Golfweek article in which he says that PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp’s patience is running thin with either the Future Competition Committee or the player-directors on the Tour’s board. Instead of writing opinion pieces from behind a TV network desk or from a laptop in a comfy sofa we did some actual journalistic work and contacted our PGA Tour HQ sources for comments about this.
What we discovered with a simple source check is that what Lynch describes as Rolapp’s patience running thin is simply a bad take made without having knowledge of all the facts or simply ignoring them.
Fact #1, we were told that the PGA Tour and its competition committee know exactly what they want to do. They are focused on following the plan and are not wasting any time.
Fact #2, a lot of parts in their plan depend on decisions made by others and those take time. For example, the total amount of signature events in the proposed Tier 1 future schedule depends on how many sponsors of those extra 8 events they have chosen to become signature events are willing to fork the money to become one. Hence why Rolapp said the Tier 1 schedule would be anywhere from 21 to 26 events. They currently have 17 of those Tier 1 events, The Players Championship, 8 signature events, 3 playoff events, and 4 majors & the Ryder Cup which are not owned by them. They need to add at least 4 more Signature Events to get to 21 events and even more events, maybe an extra playoff event to get to 26 events. That’s a lot of money and event sponsors. They simply don’t have them lined up yet. Maybe a better take would have been why those event sponsors are not on board yet instead of Rolapp losing patience.
Since the PGAT still doesn’t have a final answer from all those event sponsors or have lined up new sponsors to cover the hefty price tag of all those signature events it explains in part the 30 or so meetings the Future Competition Committee has had.
Fact #3, even if they had gotten all the sponsors lined up the day Rolapp spoke to the media, he still wouldn’t tell all the details to anyone until they get feedback from the membership since this proposed new schedule is not going to be welcomed by all. The PGAT likes to make public some basic plans beforehand to see how their membership, golf media, and fans react to them. Now you understand why Rolapp referred to this plan as “a work in progress” or “nothing has been finalized,” etc. because apart from not being ready it is more complicated than Lynch thinks. Rolapp released those future PGAT plans in part to put their sponsors, media market, and membership on notice, this is our plan please get on board. Releasing the future plans now and describing them as “a work in progress” has nothing to do with Rolapp having lost patience with either the Future Competition Committee or the player-directors on the Tour’s board, they are his bosses or better said, Tiger Woods is his boss since Tiger is the Co-Chair of the PGATE board, Lead Player Director of a player majority PGAT board, Chair of the Future Competition Committee, and he was the one who chose (or accepted) Rolapp for the CEO position. By no means is Rolapp going to call him out publicly.
Fact #4, it is not until the PGAT has a final amount of actual signature events that they can decide the final rules of promotion and relegation between their proposed Tier1 and Tier 2 schedules and fields. It would not make sense to announce those promotion/relegation rules now since they still don’t know how many events in the proposed Tier 1 schedule, they will end up having. Also, because the Tour doesn’t have a full picture to present to its membership and the promotion/relegation rules will be the tool used to force the top players to show up to those events the Tour doesn’t want an uprising from their membership months in advance. Like we said, not everyone on Tour will be happy with this new plan at first.
Fact #5 and perhaps the most important, another issue at hand that depends on the final number of sponsors lined up for those signature events is how many of those events if any will have to be subsidized with the Tour cash coffers, what would be that amount if that were the case, and if SSG is on board with that or will they have to lower their purses, lower the amount of signature events or change their tactic altogether.
Fact #6, the PGAT and PGATE financials show they need to increase revenues and/or cut expenses. The PGAT TV contract represents about 65% of their revenues and most of the rest of their revenues fall on sponsors. Rolapp said in his press conference that the PGAT needs to have a compelling product so they can have any type of success when they go to media market and sponsors, it is why they are making these changes and why this Tour “revamp” is so important for them. Before they make any final decisions and present that plan to a board vote all their ducks will need to be on a row. As we have mentioned, the problem they have is that many of those ducks (media contracts, event sponsors, SSG approval) are not controlled by them. Nothing will go to a board vote until all those ducks are in said row no matter how long it takes.
Any PGAT media market negotiation that ends up with a contract similar or below to what they currently have will force the Tour to either make drastic changes (reduce events, purses, expenses, dumping DPWT, etc.) and/or having to go after PE investment once again. If only they had accepted more PE investment (PIF) in recent years and a new source of revenue (franchises) they would not be in the financial position they currently are.
