#LegalTechDialogues: "As we embrace digital transformation, we must remain mindful of these realities. Security is not merely a technical requirement; it is a business imperative. It is essential for preserving trust, protecting reputation, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the legal profession in a digital world. If we fail to appreciate this, we risk creating an environment where clients lose confidence, opportunities diminish, and the very foundations upon which legal practice is built begin to erode." - @emchagara, Executive Director, @milimatechug Host: @TonyKiire #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Dear lawyer / Law firm, take this cyber-security advisory serious. "Now imagine that the first thing the public learns about your law firm is that it suffered a major cyber breach. Imagine news spreading that confidential client files were exposed or that sensitive information was easily accessible to unauthorized individuals. The damage extends far beyond the immediate incident. Your reputation suffers. Your credibility suffers. Most importantly, trust suffers. Trust is the foundation of legal practice. Clients need confidence that their lawyer can safeguard their interests, maintain confidentiality, and handle matters with professionalism. Trust is not built overnight. It is earned gradually through years of consistent performance and ethical conduct. Unfortunately, trust can be destroyed very quickly." - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug Host: @TonyKiire #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber security advisory before transitioning to a paperless court system "As the legal profession becomes increasingly digital, clients expect their lawyers to demonstrate digital maturity. Many clients today are multinational corporations, financial institutions, technology companies, government agencies, and other organizations with sophisticated security requirements. These clients want to work with legal practitioners who are forward-thinking, technologically competent, and capable of protecting sensitive information." - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug Host: @TonyKiire #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber security advisory before transitioning to a paperless court system "For a law firm, credibility is one of its most valuable assets. A firm's reputation is built on trust, professionalism, confidentiality, and competence. Clients entrust lawyers with highly sensitive information because they believe that information will be protected." - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug Host: @TonyKiire #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber security advisory before transitioning to a paperless court system When people hear about a cyberattack, the first thing they usually ask is, "How much money was lost?" That is a natural reaction. We often hear reports that a company was hacked and millions of dollars were stolen, and immediately we focus on the financial loss. However, cyberattacks do not only cost money. In fact, in many mature markets, including the United Kingdom, organizations are increasingly adopting cyber insurance. This means that while financial losses remain significant, money is no longer the greatest concern." - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: "I was pleased when the court annulled the amended Computer Misuse Act because, in my view, the law was so STUPID. For instance, how can it be considered a criminal offence to take someone's photograph without their consent in all circumstances? Consider a situation where the person being photographed is a robber or a thief in the act of committing a crime. Such a photograph could serve as crucial evidence. Yet, when the matter eventually comes before a court, the judicial officer will naturally ask for evidence to support the allegations. If citizens are prohibited from capturing such evidence, it raises serious questions about the practical application of the law and its implications for the administration of justice." - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber-security expert, Mr. @emchagara sends stern advice to the @JudiciaryUG regarding data protection in their pursuit of paperless judicial system. 📌A simple but effective starting point is to classify information appropriately. 📌First, every institution should have clear policies defining how information is classified and handled. 📌Second, there must be controls in place to protect classified information from unauthorized disclosure. Returning to the example of a Document Management System (DMS), files can be categorized as Red, Amber, or Green within the system itself. 📍A Red file, for instance, should not be exportable without authorization. Additional controls such as multi-factor authentication can ensure that a file cannot leave the system without approval from the designated file owner. 📍Similarly, an Amber file should not be permitted to leave the organization through a personal email account. It should only be transmitted through approved corporate communication channels. 📍These controls significantly strengthen confidentiality and reduce the risk of unauthorized disclosure. In a nut shell, Failure to take these matters seriously can expose legal practitioners and their firms to reputational damage, regulatory consequences, and even lawsuits from their own clients arising from negligence. 👉Information security is no longer merely an IT issue; it is a professional and ethical obligation for every legal practitioner operating in the digital age. #DigitalTransformation

Cyber expert Mr. @emchagara, the Founder and CEO @milimatechug enlists key points that @JudiciaryUG must put into account before rolling out a paperless court system. "In information security, we often apply what is known as the Traffic Light Protocol (TLP), which classifies information into categories such as Red, Amber, and Green. Red 🔴 information is highly classified and must not be disclosed under any circumstances without explicit authorization. Amber🟠 information is intended for internal use only. For example, if a file is classified as Amber within a law firm, it should only be accessible to authorized personnel within that organization. Green 🟢 information may be shared more broadly and can generally be made available to the public. This is a practical framework that legal practitioners can adopt. Unfortunately, many lawyers still lack sufficient sensitivity to the security implications of the technologies they use. As a result, confidential files are routinely shared through Bluetooth, WhatsApp, personal email accounts, and other unsecured channels without adequate consideration for security risks." #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber security advisory before transitioning to a paperless court system Today, there are numerous ways in which file management can be compromised. Consider the common practice of sharing documents through WhatsApp. If the information is highly sensitive, a simple mistake—such as posting it in the wrong group—can result in a serious breach. We have also witnessed increasing levels of carelessness in the use of digital communication tools. - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug #DigitalTransformation

#LegalTechDialogues: Cyber security advisory before transitioning to a paperless court system "Within the judicial system, we handle highly sensitive information. A lawyer's case strategy, defence documents, legal opinions, and evidence intended for presentation before a court are all confidential materials. At that stage of the proceedings, such documents are extremely sensitive and require the highest level of protection and security. * * * On the other hand, judgments and court decisions that have already been delivered are generally public records and may be accessed by members of the public. It is therefore essential for legal practitioners to distinguish between information that is confidential and requires protection, and information that is public and can be freely accessed. - @emchagara, Founder and CEO @milimatechug #DigitalTransformation
