The budget calls for “deconstructing a weaponized bureaucracy” and ending support for “woke ideology.” In reality, it eliminates evidence-based programs, erases health equity work, and strips federal support from the communities that need it most.

The federal government doesn’t ‘give’ money to Harvard. The $2.2 billion in frozen payments isn’t for Harvard sophomores’ tuition or library books. The US government is buying services from Harvard: scientific & medical research & development. These aren’t ‘woke donations.’ They are contracts. Proposed, reviewed, awarded, with metrics and deadlines and standards of performance. Harvard is a government contractor in that sense — lab by lab, scientist by scientist — just the way any other company is a contractor. That’s true of Columbia’s $400 million in ‘frozen’ contracts — and all the rest. R1 research universities do crucial research the federal government can’t do itself, but that we as a nation have decided we need done. Mission driven. Pioneering. Essential. They can’t be done — as Sean Hannity just suggested — at community colleges & vocational schools. That’s not what the $2.2 billion is being spent on. …You could Google it. Of course.

Lukewarm take: Because I use Zoom for like 99.9% of virtual things at work, my brain rebels against any meeting or conference set up on Teams and wants whoever planned it to stop trying to make “fetch” happen. Okay. Carry on. 😂🙃🙄

@drstarbird I'm in the same boat. Just responded to a text from one of my BRIDGE UP students being honest. I do know that seeing them and being around Black excellence will buoy my spirits.

I have been super excited about ABRCMS and still am (it’s the best!), but tbh, as I packed I wanted to cancel. This week is hitting me hard, life is hitting me hard, and I feel I can’t fake a single thing atm. Sometimes it’s just like that. Still going.

For balance: yes, in industry, working for a mid-cap pharma company, as someone who has "Senior Scientist" as his job title and leads a number of direct reports... Both yesterday and today I've had to go in for a couple hours to expand or passage cell cultures and make media.
