An attacker just drained $1.34 MILLION out of Raydium, from pools that have been dead since 2021. Raydium retired these old pools years ago and moved everyone to newer ones, but never actually switched off the old contracts. They sat live onchain, unused, until today someone found a flaw, faked proof of ownership, slipped past the checks and emptied five of them. The active exchange wasn't touched and the team says its treasury covers anyone affected, so users don't lose out. Same lesson as half the hacks this year though. Nobody goes after the part everyone's watching. They go for the part everyone forgot was still on.

For years, traditional payment systems were built on trust in intermediaries. Paper forms, manual approvals, multi step settlements, and human errors were all part of the process. The problem was that to know whether money had actually moved, you had to trust a bank, an operator, or some central authority. Modern systems have changed that equation, but in my view, Bitcoin's biggest innovation was not creating digital money. It was reducing the need to trust a person or an organization. In Bitcoin, the ledger is visible to everyone, and transaction validity is determined by network consensus, not by the word of an intermediary. Perhaps that is why, after 15 years, Bitcoin's most important feature is still not its price. It is its reliability.
