Why are the rules so different for politicians. Peter Mandelson failed his security vetting clearance. Decision overruled by Foreign Office. Teachers and Social Workers have to jump through hoops. There is no way they would get away with such a discovery on their record.

Starmer is, at best, an ordinary PM, poor on the economy, good for the NHS but great on foreign policy. However his greatest contribution is pissing off nasties like Musk and his nasty hard right followers by not resigning and providing steady continuity and keeping the putrid creatures of chaos away.

Starmer forced through Mandelson's appointment despite the fact he'd been red flagged by the security services. He then lied to the House about it. He then tried to cover up publication of the documents that would have exposed the lies. If that isn't a resigning matter, what is.

Mandelson did go through the vetting process. It is not a lie to say that. KS did not lie when he said that Mandelson went through the vetting process. That he failed the vetting process doesn't mean that he wasn't properly vetted. The next question is what was KS told.
