St. Stephen's church was built in the 1840s by the wealthy Angela Burdett-Coutts in the notorious Devil's Acre area of Westminster, with encouragement from her friend Charles Dickens. Its steeple was damaged during the 20thC and is now partly of fibre glass to look like stone.
