@MartinIturriBi My grandparents were incredibly wealthy. My grandfather was a doctor with a private practice and they traveled whenever they felt like it. They just didn’t make it their entire personality and allow it to impact their care and love of their family.

It’s a different world. Traveling to Mexico or taking a cruise, let alone a Euro trip would have been incomprehensible to the Greatest/Silent generation. For one they didn’t have the money and two, it just wasn’t something that was done. My grandparents’ (b. 1920s) “trip of a lifetime” was 2 weeks in Hawaii, in their 60s. They never did anything remotely comparable to that again. Their standard “vacation” was camping. But the boomers have the money and accessibility to go anywhere they want. Mexico or Europe isn’t out of reach. So they go. I mean they should still see their grandkids. But they have other things to do too. Not saying it’s good! But it’s a different mentality.

My grandma would always say how her first grandchild (watching him every day, mind you) got her through some of the hardest moments in her life, so yeah I do find it a lil weird when boomers say that they ‘deserve’ to ‘enjoy’ their retirement and that there is so many things they’re prohibited from enjoying by caring for small children.

I’m sick of this culture of “give yourself more grace” outside of illness/pregnancy/disability. You’re a healthy and able bodied adult, things don’t get accomplished or changed because you’re apathetic and selfish. Stop giving yourself grace and get up, do the things you say you will do.

@LostKattt i live avoidants bcos u could be like “hey lets have a quick conversation about X and then go back to being normal and happy” but that conversation might include 2 minutes of discomfort and so they choose to just lose you for good like great choice man
