@SDPhq Sounds amazing! I bet the scenery watching would be stunning. I'm in favour. However, with current planning rules it would cost a £200b and after 30 years there'd be nothing to show for it having spaffed all that money on consultants and impact assessments etc.

It’s time Wales was united. Getting a train from Swansea to Anglesey should not have to involve going via England. That is why the SDP supports building new railways connecting the south and the north. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

🚨 BREXIT BENEFIT KLAXON 🚨 This is Roger Jackson from Bedford, and is the first man in Europe to receive a groundbreaking cancer treatment called histotripsy. He is just the first of many Brits receiving this lifesaving cancer treatment, approved thanks to Brexit divergence.

The Free Speech Union
The Free Speech Union@SpeechUnion·
📣🚨The Free Speech Union is mounting a legal challenge against the Government over its official definition of Islamophobia — now repackaged as 'anti-Muslim hatred' — and its appointment of a new 'tsar' to punish people who fall foul of it. This amounts to a Muslim blasphemy law via the back door. The definition is vague and subjective, and will be weaponised to silence legitimate criticism and debate about Islam, Muslims, and Islamic practices and history. The FSU’s General Secretary, Lord Young of Acton, said: “This is the most serious threat to free speech the Government has come up with so far — the only area in which it’s achieving any success. “If we don’t win this fight, tens of thousands of people a year could lose their jobs at the say-so of a Labour-appointed ‘tsar’. It’s dystopian.” Public bodies will adopt this definition — despite it being non-statutory — with the same zeal the police have shown in investigating and recording non-crime hate incidents (NCHIs). It is predicted by one of the drafters of the definition that it could lead to around 20,000 reports of 'anti-Muslim hostility' a year. At present, the number of recorded anti-Muslim hate crimes is around 4,000. In a free society, no religion should be shielded from legitimate criticism. This proposal places one faith above the rest. The Free Speech Union is bringing a legal challenge on two grounds. First, the definition relies on nebulous, legally undefined terms such as “negative and prejudicial stereotyping of Muslims”, making it incoherent and irrational — and ripe for weaponisation. Second, adopting such a definition cuts across legislation already enacted by Parliament and therefore breaches the public law principle known as “occupying the field”. Under this established public law doctrine, new regulations, put in place by ministers, must not replace existing legislation. It is constitutionally unlawful. In this case, the body responsible for protecting Muslims from discrimination is the Equality and Human Rights Commission, not an anti-Muslim hostility 'tsar'. Parliament voted to abolish blasphemy laws 18 years ago. We can't let this Government resurrect them via the back door. This is one of the biggest battles the Free Speech Union has ever taken on in its six years — and we need your help. Judicial reviews are expensive, but this is a fight we felt we had to take on. UK trade data for 2025 published yesterday. We now have 10 years of data since the EU ref & 5 since we left the customs union. Remember the OBR forecast Brexit would reduce UK trade by 15% (hence their forecast of a 4% hit to productivity). Let’s see how that is working out …

Lots of people messaging me saying octopus has added early exit fees to their fixes. Yes that seems to be a policy change. It's fixes were never that competitive compared to open market, but that (as well as service) was its big sell. It is of course only for new not existing fixes. The market is in turmoil there are very few cheap fixes left so ultimately this may be a defensive move to keep it's fix relatively (definitely not absolutely) lower. To be fair all companies are playing with their now, mostly paltry, offerings. The market is all over the place.

The democratic case against the EU, here made half a century ago by Labour politician Michael Foot. EU’s relentless suffocation of democratic accountability in Europe once concerned the left. But rewarded with power and perks, few critics remain today.

International law - particularly post-9/11 - supports action against terror regimes like Iran's IRGC under Article 51 self-defence when they continue to sponsor terror groups and attacks (including those in the UK, which I'm sure you know - or are supposed to know) and carry out massacres of Persians in Iran. The mass killings of innocent people was the last straw - so this is more than justified. From MI5: "Since January 2022, with police partners, we have responded to twenty Iran-backed plots presenting potentially lethal threats to British citizens and UK residents."

If you're disapplying electoral law based on "cultural sensitivity", then you're simultaneously: - Admitting we are operating a two-tier legal system - Admitting that certain cultures are incapable of following UK laws

This story is actually insane: • dude drops $2000 on a DJI robot vacuum like a lunatic • refuses to use the normal app like a peasant • Sammy Azdoufal fires up Claude to crack the API so he can drive it with an xbox controller • Claude delivers the goods • pulls an auth token from their servers, connects successfully • except the system thinks he controls 7000 vacuums • checks again • yep, seven thousand • DJI built authentication with zero device ownership verification • any valid token works for any unit on the planet • Sammy now has eyes inside homes across 24 countries • live vacuum camera feeds everywhere • full floor plans from the mapping data • some guy in germany eating cereal at 3am, unaware his roomba is snitching • one API call away from being the most informed burglar in history • all he wanted was to steer his vacuum with a joystick • does the right thing and reports it • DJI fixes it in two days • back to normal life with his stupidly expensive floor cleaner • IoT companies stay undefeated at shipping garbage security

In case you missed this. The Senior Economics Writer at The Economist has admitted that he and "a lot of his colleagues" were "super anti-Brexit" (his words) and suffered from confirmation bias, wanting to see the UK economy go down the toilet as punishment for leaving.

@ollie18821 @RestIsPolitics Alistair recently said it was hard to argue against people saying this Labour government is as bad as the last lot. I think that's as close as we'll get to neutrality. The last gov set the bar **so low** and Labour still cocked it up...
