The Truth About the Eucharist That Catholics Don't Want You to See

I’m Protestant, but reading church history makes it hard to stay such. Earliest Christians, the ones who directly received the New Testament, they believe in real presence of the Eucharist and it was the main reason they met together. Not to hear a sermon. What are we to do with this info? Say the earliest Christians who learned at the direct oversight of the apostles were wrong?

@JamesDitto12 @CapturingChrist You either fail to understand or its just pure cope/twisting whats said. He alined with his contemporaries & even those after him. Not 1 father condemn him for his explanation, neither did the Church through all of history why? coz they believed, meant & taught the same thing🤡🌎

That's hilarious.
I read Martyr and can't even begin to see "real presence" let alone "transsubstantiation".
“For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Saviour, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh.” First Apology Chapter 66.
1. When Martyr writes "from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished" it is (in Greek) κατὰ μεταβολὴν (kata metabolēn) means "by metabolism", not "transmutation".
2. In Dialogue with Trypho (Chapter 117), Justin says: "Now, that prayers and giving of thanks, when offered by worthy men, are the only perfect and well-pleasing sacrifices to God, I also admit."
IF Martyr intended the breaking of bread to be the sacrifice, he would not have made such an exclusive claim about the ONLY perfect sacrifices being prayer and giving of thanks.
The Eucharist is a sacrifice because it is prayers of thanks-giving, not because of the breaking of bread.
Simply put, if his claim here that the thanks-giving is the ONLY perfect sacrifice as he states, then he cannot be claiming that the breaking of bread is the sacrifice, nor be claiming that the bread changes into Christ's own actual body.
3. Ordinary bread and wine, is transmuted (kata metabolēn) to nourish our flesh and blood.
4. Before consecration it is ordinary bread and wine. After it is consecrated, it represents Christ's body and blood.
In DwT (ch.70) Martyr says "...the bread which our Christ gave us to eat, in remembrance of His being made flesh... and the cup which He gave us to drink, in remembrance of His own blood.".
In ch.40/41 he says "The offering of fine flour... was a figure (typos) of the bread of the Eucharist, which Jesus Christ our Lord prescribed to be presented." He identifies the bread as a representative sign, not the physical substance itself." The bread is "appointed by Christ" to stand in for Christ. The bread is no longer "common"—it has a unique, sacred status; that is: the bread IS him standing in his place in our memorial feast, not that it becomes him via invisible properties.
The bread remains as bread, but the bread takes the place of Christ in our remembrance of him.
There is simply no "transsubstantiation", no "real presence" claim in Martyr. Martyr is perfectly compatible with Baptist theology.

In short, early Church gatherings were intimately Catholic.
Gavin quotes Justin Martyr in his video saying the following:
“For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Saviour, having been made flesh by the Word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise have we been taught that the food which is blessed by the prayer of His word, and from which our blood and flesh by transmutation are nourished, is the flesh and blood of that Jesus who was made flesh.”
This is simply not compatible with Baptist theology.

What would it have been like to attend a worship gathering in 150 AD? New video out today, recounting Justin Martyr's description and drawing implications. I am also going to make this one into a shorter animated video, Lord willing (will be a few months).
