I found my favorite stat from this NBA season. @AndreDrummond shot 35.6% from 3 on 90 attempts. In the 2015-16 season, Drummond shot 35.5%...on free throws.

Update: Minnesota's win over Houston means the Pistons will pick 21st. That was a great bit of work Trajan Langdon did in the 3-team deal that netted Kevin Huerter, moving up 7 spots. To do that on draft night would have cost ... a future protected first, probably?

A good night for the Pistons. Their 59th win ties for the third most in franchise history. The kicker is that Toronto's loss means the pick swap the Pistons got from Minnesota in the Kevin Huerter deal conveys. It was protected 1-19. Pick will now be 20 or 21.

My simple solution to tanking.
Phase 1: Award preliminary ping pong balls using a weighted inverse performance index adjusted for strength of schedule, injury-corrected win probability, and a 12-variable regression model updated nightly by a committee of actuaries sponsored by Emirates.
Phase 2: Preliminary ping pong balls are distributed by an independent custodial agent following a 60-day comment period in which all 30 franchises may submit objections in writing then all 14 non-playoff teams are evaluated by a Warren Commission-type panel that assigns each a parameter in a simple ridge regression model. the coefficients are public. It's all powered by AWS.

@JustEsBaraheni Seems like the only way to eliminate tanking is to remove the incentive to lose. Even if they go to flat odds for all 30/32 teams, there will still be tankers who will prefer to fall from 1st to 5th pick rather than 2nd to 6th pick.

@KeithSmithNBA I think somewhere along the line, people started to think the 65 game threshold was put in place to preserve the integrity of the awards, rather than an attempt to punish good players for missing games.

A. Be tweaked considerably
or
B. Go away entirely
I prefer B. I think the awards voters did a fine job of determining if a player had played enough games without setting these fixed thresholds to hit.

@omarisankofa I feel like there are some fairly random 50 point performances, but no one ever scored 60+ without ever having a season averaging at least 25 ppg, and Bam's career high is 20.4.
