ICE @HSI_DC special agents arrested Roni Mendez-Escobar during a targeted enforcement operation, April 22, on federal criminal charges of possessing and distributing CHILD SEX ABUSE MATERIAL. Mendez-Escobar is a previously deported criminal illegal from Guatemala who was charged with 15 counts of possessing CSAM in Fairfax County, Va., last year. At that time, ICE lodged a detainer against him with Fairfax County, asking the local authorities to turn him over to ICE instead of releasing him back into the community. Fairfax County refused our immigration detainer, released him and dismissed the charges last October. He’s currently in U.S. Marshals’ custody awaiting prosecution on the new CSAM charges.
