The best way to fix public transit in Ottawa is to complete the upload of our LRT to the province. This is what the upload means to you.

Mayor @_MarkSutcliffe never expected to go viral for dreary ‘Good morning Ottawa’ post, but he enjoyed the attention it received.

We all know that Ottawa is a terrific place to live. It's gratifying to see that Ottawa was ranked #1 among major cities, and #4 out of 454 cities overall, in the Globe and Mail's report today on Canada's Most Livable Cities. We've jumped much higher in the rankings from a few years ago based on our improved quality of life. I guess Shane Hollander is right about Ottawa! theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…

Ottawa is saying YES to housing. Today, I signed a $400-million affordable housing agreement with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney at the Mayor’s Breakfast. Ottawa is the first municipality in Canada to partner with Build Canada Homes. Subject to Council approval, this agreement will help deliver up to 3,000 new affordable homes in our city. Ottawa is leading the way by building more homes and building them faster.

This is arguably the most ambitious housing plan any Canadian city has put forward. Incredible. Mayor @_MarkSutcliffe wants "to make Ottawa the most housing-friendly city in Canada" and the plan is comprehensive enough to do it. Other cities should watch and learn. Some details:

This morning, Mayor @_MarkSutcliffe announced Ottawa's Housing Action Plan. I've been his biggest critic. I've delegated countless times at City Hall urging him to get serious. I've spent years calling for major reforms. And today... he delivered. This is probably the most ambitious housing plan in the country. And more importantly, it's a clear, direct, written commitment from the Mayor to make Ottawa the most housing friendly city in Canada. Almost everything we've been fighting for since I launched Make Housing Affordable is in this plan. To his credit, the Mayor and his team brought us in. They acknowledged mistakes were made in the past. They asked us what needed to change. They listened. They acted. There will still be more to push for. And some of the details still need to be filled in. But this is a major YIMBY victory in Ontario's second biggest city. And I am grateful to Mayor Sutcliffe and his team for having the courage to admit they were wrong and for working to make so much positive change so quickly. Here are a few of the highlights: - Undertaking review of development charges and parkland charges with goal of lowering both - Suspending the Community Benefits Charge - Deferring development charges until occupancy - Deferring collection of cash-in-lieu of parkland until occupancy - Capping cash-in-lieu of parkland for transit-oriented development - Increasing maximum heights in transit hubs and major corridors - Review of urban design guidelines that are restricting development - Extending site plan control exemptions to developments under 10 units - Comprehensive review of secondary plans which are limiting development near transit stations downtown - Reducing number of studies required for development - Reduce complexity of pre-consultations - Removing duplicate reviews by accepting studies from certified professionals - Remove zoning barriers for modular and prefabricated homes - Broaden zoning provisions to increase the potential for gentle density in neighbourhoods On some of these items, we'll be urging the Mayor's office to go further, faster. But today, we'll be celebrating this as a major win - the culmination of years of advocacy and hard work.

Being a teenager is hard enough when you have a home to go to. It’s almost impossible when you don’t. I pledge that by 2030, we will end youth homelessness in Ottawa. Nearly half of adults experiencing homelessness were first without a home before the age of 16. By focusing on prevention, diversion, and support for young people, ending youth homelessness is the first step toward ending homelessness entirely.

Great news for Ottawa: Housing starts are up 68% so far in 2025, compared to the same period in 2024. That's way above the national average of 4%. There's a lot more work to do to make housing affordable and accessible, and improve and accelerate the approval process. I'm looking forward to the recommendations from the Housing Innovation Task Force and the final draft of the new Zoning Bylaw. But this is good progress so far this year. Let's keep saying "yes" to more housing!

Over the past few months, I've had many conversations with Premier Ford and his team about the future of public transit in Ottawa. I've made the case that Ottawa deserves to be treated like other Ontario cities such as Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, and Brampton. I'm very glad that Premier Ford agrees. Today, the Premier announced that if he forms a new government, he will upload Ottawa's light-rail system to the Province. This will align Ottawa with other Ontario cities and have an enormous impact on our city's financial position, while allowing OC Transpo to focus on improving our bus and rail service for residents. This will be a big win for Ottawa!

The more than $500 million of provincial investment in Ottawa will go toward economic recovery, including in the downtown core; shelters and support for the homeless; public safety, including more officers in the ByWard Market; and transportation, including rural roads, a highway interchange in Barrhaven, and bus rapid transit in Kanata. This will help us deal with financial pressures and deliver better service to our residents.

BIG #ottcity news this morning. Over half a billion dollars from Ontario to address some of Ottawa's biggest issues: housing & homelessness, improving our roads, more law enforcement and help with capital costs. A new chapter for the city and province relationship. #onpoli

A year and a half ago, @_MarkSutcliffe campaigned to make #Ottawa safer, reliable & more affordable. Those priorities were endorsed by a commanding number of voters. This new deal for Ottawa with @fordnation ticks all those boxes. The Mayor deserves credit for getting it done.
