Putting a protected bike lane, sidewalk, and bus lane on every street is somehow a controversial act in a country that doesn’t think twice about putting free parking, roads, and highways on every street.

A thread of some random thoughts: Some routes that will get delayed due to congestion without bus priority in the Queens Bus Redesign: Q50 on the Whitestone, Q68 on the Kosciuszko, Q51 on the Belt. There are others. Union Street in Flushing needs bus priority./1

Haven’t been to Flushing’s Main St since the busway went in, but whoa, what a change it’s brought to the stretch. This is at evening rush, and there’s much less honking and traffic (although some cars still enter). Buses are flying by.

The @MainStBusway has definitely sped up the buses and made it safer to walk & bike. It's much more pleasant to visit and commute through downtown #Flushing than it was when it was gridlocked and suffocated by drivers. #Busway FTW!
