If they called offside in soccer like they do hockey, where if any part of your body is onside, then you’re onside, instead of the opposite, I think it would make soccer infinitely more watchable and enjoyable.

@JaredDapena @Brandon_N_Wile Name who his replacement would have been? I'll take Davies impact against S Africa over whatever impact his replacement would have been

Final thoughts on Davies: - Glad he said this postgame. - It's fair for fans to be disappointed. - Canada was 100% correct to name him to the team. - They could have handled the Davies stuff better w/ media but also were likely protecting the player. - He's always taken immense pride in representing the national team. I don't believe his decision to not play was taken lightly. - He was injured A LOT leading into WC. - You can't just play through a hamstring injury in this sport. -Would you want your captain to risk it all in an elimination game at the WC? Sure, but also we're not in his shoes. - Canada is a better team with him. Hopefully he finds a way to stay healthy.
Ben Steiner@BenSteiner00

Alphonso Davies takes ownership of not going into the game while speaking to the media saying that he didn’t want to risk his hamstring at not 100% after the number of tears. He said he didn’t “want to be a burden” if he couldn’t fully sprint and that it was “mentally tough.”

I’m far from soccer expert, but I think it’s absolutely ignorant you can get called for offsides when the pass is literally in the box… I get the rule for majority of the decisions… But the ball is literally 8 from the net… The defense literally gets rewarded for leaving someone unmarked… Dumb

@TheDeuce It’s hubris. If a casual observer of American football had a legit rule change suggestion, we’d embrace it or at least consider it. Hell, we debate rules and how they’re implemented amongst ourselves all the time. They think this stupid game is above reproach for some reason.

@MKG_Sports Just make it full body instead of leading edge. It will add 30% more goals which there is no real advantage.

Hydration breaks. Football is a game of momentum and anyone who's ever watched a thrilling 90 minutes would agree that most players or supporters would give up a half time break when a great game is being played. Why? Stops destroy that momentum and flow of the incredible spectacle of association football. Our sport, a 150 year old sport no less, is the world's most popular to watch and to play. Not the NFL Not the NBA Not MLB Association Football. So a few pundits, fans and journalists doing TV and sponsors bidding by opining that hydration breaks are a good idea couldn't give one good reason as to how the game would be made better. Coaches work SEVEN DAYS A WEEK to drill instruction into players, so in game instruction isn't needed. Players can hydrate whenever they like. They're not fucking babies needing a feed. The breaks CREATE a STOP OF MOMENTUM. And I've never seen one match in thousands I've watched or played in that's been better with more stoppages. Not ONE. So to this angling for change, what makes you think you're so special to change the world's most popular sport to play and watch that's been both of those things for 150 years? Minor tweaks? Absolutely. The back pass rule was being abused, so it was changed. A materially good thing for the players and fans. More breaks? At a time where stops in play for diving, cheating, VAR etc are colliding with hydration breaks? No thanks. Those wanting this are working for broadcasters and sponsors who want a bigger piece of the game. Never forget that. Football. A simple game ruined by football illiterate fucknuts.

@WajirTweep @Livin_Liverpool There are many reasons why a player might want a London move. Torres to Chelsea for example was not because of Chelsea so much but all about the player wanting to have a more anonymous private life, to be able to get lost in a crowd more easily than he could in Liverpool

It's ridiculous, to begin with. But it's also unfair, because co-host USA would have played at home even if they finished 2nd in their group, whereas the other co-hosts Canada and Mexico needed to finish first in their respective groups in order to earn a home game in the knockout round.

If Canada and Mexico are playing in the Round of 32 those games should be in Canada and Mexico - no matter what What are we doing here This is not difficult
Ben Steiner@BenSteiner00

NEW: There should've been a path for Canada and Mexico to play at home if they didn't win their group. The road is far from over, though, and the #CanMNT are more than used to playing in front of away crowds as they will now. ✍️My story for @MLS mlssoccer.com/competitions/f…

@goodson_erik Lol. I'm right down the middle brotha. I've never spoken to you in my life. Why are these foreigners here saying "All I've been told is how awful America is. Then I come here and realize, it's amazing." Where are they hearing that narrative? The mainstream media.

I'm not even a soccer guy, but I've been hooked to the World Cup. North America has done such a tremendous job hosting, that the World Cup should be in the United States on a steady rotation moving forward. We have infrastructure here that no other country in the world has, which makes us the perfect host country for such a great event. It's been amazing to see how much foreigners love being here. They've been lied to by the mainstream media, led to believe that our country sucks, but they're here and loving it. It's awesome. #WorldCup

The Iran Football Federation wants FIFA to prevent any “ceremonies or promotional activities” in support of the LGBTQ+ community at a much discussed “Pride Match” between Egypt and Iran on Friday in Seattle, as well as restricting symbols or representations of the Pride movement at Lumen Field. Since Seattle was confirmed to have a June 26 World Cup fixture, the city’s host committee has been preparing activations to mark the occasion, with the match at Lumen Field fixed as Egypt vs. Iran following the draw last December. FIFA told The Athletic on Wednesday it is permitting rainbow flags at all of its World Cup matches this summer. More from @AdamCrafton_ 🔗 nyti.ms/3QJ7gUh
