I see a lot of discussion and questions about grading companies so figured I’d offer as unbiased of an opinion as I can on the big players currently. I have been collecting for over thirty years and been grading/reselling since 2013; not to say that my opinions are any more correct than the next persons but just so you know where my opinions are coming from. PSA PSA is a high liquidity slab with industry standard resell prices. The brand has one of the better service departments in both accessibility and resolution. With their long history and dominant market share long term value retention with their slabs is very high. Current turnarounds are quite long with additional time being added regularly during the current market boom and due to their upcharge fee structure they are often one of the more expensive companies to grade with. Their slabs are also often criticized for their unattractive design and despite a relatively low percentage of errors their sheer volume of grading does produce a number of errors which can shake brand confidence at times. Liquidity ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Cost ⭐️ ⭐️ Turnaround ⭐️ ⭐️ ✨ Resale $ 10s ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Resale $ 1-9s ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Brand Confidence ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ CGC While CGC is currently a distant second they are still a dominant presence in card grading having only been in the space since 2020. They are one of the easiest 10s in the industry with some modern cards only holding slight premiums to raw cards but have a Pristine 10 grade which generally holds a premium over their PSA 10 counterparts. The relatively new presence in the space combined with their softer grades has made them a less liquid slab than their PSA counterparts. The company’s long history in grading collectibles would lead me to be relatively confident they will maintain their market share into the future and that their slabs will maintain value and desirability going forward. Their 10s command a premium over any other company’s with their Black Label being the most coveted slab in the industry with multipliers several times that of other slabs. Despite the concentration of value at the top their desirability falls off outside of their 10s. While they do not charge extra based on value of the cards their extremely high standards for their 10s and the drop off on their lower grades can make them a financially risky choice for people focused on their margins. Their slab being outside the normal industry sizing combined with lower demand for their non 10 grades can also make them a less liquid option. Liquidity ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Cost ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Turnaround ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Resale $ 10s ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Resale $ 1-9s ⭐️ ⭐️ ✨ Brand Confidence ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ✨ TAG While the newest company on the list they are making waves with their minimalist slabs and transparent grading practices. While TAG was established in 2010 their consumer side did not launch until 2022 with significant market presence not really achieved until 2025. While it is great they have made such an impact in a short amount of time they are also facing the growing pains that come with it. Price increases and longer turnaround times have already started popping up but with that has also come an uptick in their sold comps with their 10s even outperforming PSA in some instances. I think TAG is absolutely going to make a long term effect on the industry but will it be with their presence or will it be with their competitors implementing some of their processes themselves?
