@levantophile American public religion has never been intellectual and the Catholic Church is fading infinitely faster than evangelicalism in the US. 20% of Catholics become atheists or protestants in their life, and almost nobody becomes a Catholic.

The mainline Protestants have faded into near-irrelevance, and Evangelicalism is too unintellectual and has overly politicized itself through its full alignment with right-wing politics, leaving the Catholic Church as the only viable choice of faith for most Americans.
America will likely become a Catholic-majority country in the 21st century, and that will be one of the principal and most consequential legacies of the first American pope.

Vance is in an interesting predicament. On the one hand, he wants Tucker et al. to support his 2028 campaign. On the other, as Trump’s VP, he will have to run on this admin being a success. Those appear mutually exclusive atm.
It will be interesting to see how he navigates this.
