“My donor isn’t here but his legacy is living through me. I think about him every day. By choosing organ donation – you are saving someone’s life.” Professional Footballer and Chesterfield FC coach Kieron Dyer has played for his hometown club, Ipswich, and his country - with 33 caps for England. In November 2015, Kieron appeared as a contestant on ‘I’m a Celebrity’ and lasted 21 days, coming fourth. Just six years later, in 2021, he was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis, and told he would need to undergo a liver transplant. Two years later, a successful donor was found and the operation took place in October 2023. Three months later Kieron was back in the dugout at Chesterfield, and within six months picking up his winner’s medal after Chesterfield FC won the Vanarama Conference League in April. Deeply emotional as he watched the scenes on the pitch that day, Kieron admits that his donor was at the forefront of his thoughts.
