On Sept. 11, 1973 Salvador Allende, Chile’s democratically elected president, was overthrown by a military coup backed by the U.S. which ushered in a fascist government and the loss of thousands of Chilean lives. Today, we honor the memory of Salvador Allende.

It wasn't until I'd *taught* algorithms a few times that I finally understood why sorting is in the CS curriculum. Unfortunately, most curricula don't explain this!
It is NOT because sorting is an important algorithm to learn to implement...

As a 41 year-old software developer do you know how many times I've had to manually implement QuickSort? Zero. Maybe we should test for more useful skills like taking a slow SQL query and optimizing it.

Seven years ago today, our nation suffered what was then the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Forty-nine people, predominantly Latino LGBTQI+ people, lost their lives in a senseless act of gun violence.
Today, on Pulse Remembrance Day, Jill and I pray for the families of the victims and every survivor who still carries the trauma.
It's time for Congress to make commonsense reforms to keep our communities safe. Americans deserve nothing less.

Men like this used to lead legions into battle. Now he sits in traffic, on the way to the same cubicle every day. Where he will listen to some HR harpy lecture him on how he is the problem, while he watches as his society slowly decays. He may have brief moments of happiness with his pup, but these moments are fleeting. This is the hell of modernity for a lot of men.

I think in our defense of the humanities, we need to be more comfortable making those arguments (and, yes, emotional appeals) to the deeper meaning of learning, in addition to purely meeting the quantitative arguments on their own ground.

There's an irony that some folks in the quantitative fields reject the value of parts of a humanities education which can't be quantified, while one of the lessons of the humanities is the arrogance of assuming that one's epistemology (e.g. quantified knowledge) is the only one.
