@Polysticks Blow up the nuclear stuff (and maybe any missiles that could reach the US if they have them) and then gtfo Anything beyond that is not our problem and we are not in a position to have the luxury of caring about

@MaxAnderson Is the alternative to let Iran develop Nukes and a long range missile program capable of delivering them? The same Iran the constantly says it's going to destroy the West.

When a guy as incompetent, creepy and evil as Gavin Newsom is on the right side of an issue, you know we are fucking up badly Spending hundreds of billions on another war on the other side of the world is not what most people who voted for the current administration signed up for We need to get our shit together
Gavin Newsom@GavinNewsom

$200 BILLION IS ENOUGH TO: - Double the annual per‑person spending on K–12 education. - Expand the ACA tax credit for 7 years. - Provide up to 2 million people the SNAP benefits they need. - Provide a middle class tax break of $3,500. Instead, we will spend it on an illegal war. This is only the beginning. More money will be wasted. More lives will be lost.

If you’re healthy today and you’re not planning to live to at least 150, you’re wildly underestimating how insane customized medicine is about to get
Ejaaz@cryptopunk7213

this is so fucking wholesome guy used AI to save his cancer-ridden dog by sequencing its DNA and creating a CUSTOM cure. the tech behind this is fucking awesome (well done @demishassabis and the google team): - used CHATGPT to sequence dogs DNA discovers mutations - ran the mutations through Google’s Alphafold (AI protein sequencer) which CREATED A CUSTOM VACCINE TO TREAT THEM. - treated dog and reduced tumour by 50% in WEEKS. dog is alive and well. - this is the 1st time AI has been used to create a custom vaccine for a dog (and it worked) - dude is now working on similar vaccines for humans using AI! 2026 is definitely the year we see AI change personalised medicine in a HUGE way so sick

$500m ARR is an insane accomplishment for any company But when you’re spending ~75% of that ARR on headcount across 1,200+ employees and revenue stops growing, the entire model breaks Sad truth is it’s likely the only way to fix a company like this is to lay off 50-80% of the team You may have needed those 1200+ people to build up to $500m ARR, but you only need a fraction of them to maintain it Mass layoffs are coming across the SaaS industry

He’s forgetting the $400m of debt due in 2028 EV closer to $500m Running $100m / yr of SBC Shareholders getting diluted 15% annually Imagine losing 15% / yr in dilution to hold a stock with no revenue growth and 5-10% net margins SaaS valuations are simply coming back down to earth

@MaxAnderson There is a group of software companies where AI is clearly good enough that it’s hurting their revenues but somehow not good enough that those management teams can use it to cut costs… Those teams need to quickly optimize

IQ test: What’s the rational enterprise value for a company that has to dilute shareholders 15% / yr in order to produce 5-10% net margins and no revenue growth? Hint: the answer is zero. With the market still giving it a current EV of ~$500m, there’s another $500m of market cap left to destroy (after having already destroyed $4.6bn of its $5.3bn peak market cap) Stock is down 80%, but it will go down another 80% from here Unless they do mass layoffs to get headcount spend under control Tough situation PagerDuty is a great product. My team uses it and we happily pay for it But this is what happens when you grow headcount irresponsibly $400k revenue / employee, with primarily SF-based headcount 🤯 Death spiral

@hundevmode I don’t short stocks ever Too hard and risk/reward too asymmetric in wrong direction The important info to glean here is that if this is at all representative of what’s going on across SaaS companies broadly, then mass layoffs are coming

@MaxAnderson Math doesn't lie, but the market can stay irrational for a long time. Are you shorting it or just watching the bonfire?

Agree with your point overall, when growth stalls the entire model breaks Inclusive of SBC they’re spending 70-75% of ARR on headcount 🤯 Makes sense early on when those headcount are adding lots of new rev each year But from where they are today, sadly mass layoffs prob the only way to fix it

PagerDuty now at $667m market cap on $500m ARR, so just over 1x ARR But it’s worse than that, as they have $550m in cash So enteprise value closer to $120m on $500m ARR Growth is 1%, customer count has not grown. You MUST accelerate today. This is ALL the markets care about.

@MaxAnderson Sounds like a self-correcting thing - meaning - Washington expels its best and most productive citizens... => Lower tax base => Less services/freebies/jobs (soon) => Everyone leaves => Lower tax states win (gain net new citizens, higher income folks first, then the rest...)

I think you mean 0.5% of Washingtonians will leave * (or spend less than 181 days / yr in WA) The same 0.5% that provide an outsized portion of the tax base and job creation No new income will come in Sales tax and cap gains tax receipts will go down Overall revenues for the state will go down Services will go further to shit as crime continues to go up Sports teams will go to shit as the state just became 10% less attractive to every pro ball player. Goodbye Super Bowl wins Every married couple in WA earning 7 figs will divorce on paper this year (tax is on $1 million per household regardless of whether filing married or jointly) And the streets of Seattle will become even more of a needle-and-human-feces-infested hellscape Washington is hands down the most geographically beautiful state in the country Seattle used to be one of the best cities in the country Sad how much damage retarded politicians can do FL and TX laughing all the way to the bank while the west coast states commit financial suicide
Governor Bob Ferguson@GovBobFerguson

The Millionaires' Tax has now been approved by the Senate. Donald Trump and the MAGA Congress are taking from the lowest income Americans and transferring that to the wealthiest Americans. With a tax that 0.5% of Washingtonians will pay, our state is: Expanding the Working Families Tax Credit to 460,000 additional households. Providing tax relief to nearly 140,000 small businesses. Exempting diapers, hygiene products, and over-the-counter medicines from sales tax. Investing significant funding into childcare and early learning. Providing free school lunch and breakfast for all Washington students.
