I found this notebook a few days after he passed. He always cared and he was always trying to understand.

@_KellyOC I also had to take out considerable loans for a program with guaranteed 12 m funding for each year. (I prefer not to use “fully funded” bc I think it is misleading.) I can’t imagine the horrible debt I would be in if I were to go to a program with less funding.

@MelCatMil I had to take out loans even in a fully funded program. Imo there is no real financial security or comfort in grad school. And that’s a whooooole ‘nother battle, but one that’s important to me to see change throughout the course of my career.

There’s a million ways to get you to where you want to be in your career. Don’t give up hope on your long term goal, and don’t close yourself off to the other paths you can take to get there.

@_KellyOC Instead of asking the applicants to make changes, the programs and people in our field need to be making changes.

@_KellyOC We shouldn’t be pushing those that want a clinical psych degree to other programs just bc they don’t have enough pubs. That is only going to gatekeep the field further.

I have the absolute best team of grad students, mentors, research staff, collaborators, and family partners to thank for this. I don’t think I’d like my job very much without you all, and I wouldn’t be very successful either 💙🤍

My mom graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree this weekend! She took her first class in 1983 (before my brother and I were born) and finished her last class in 2023. I am so proud to be her daughter every day!
