#Silver Massive Short - Bian Ximing, who maintains a low profile and resides primarily in Gibraltar, has accumulated nearly $3 billion from bullish positions on Shanghai Futures Exchange gold contracts since early 2022, according to Bloomberg. He has now established the exchange’s largest net short position in silver. Bian’s silver short position represents approximately 450 tons, or 30,000 contracts. The metal’s sharp decline since last week has generated a paper gain of about 2 billion yuan ($288 million). Below are the 2026 target weights for the Bloomberg Commodity Index (BCOM) and the S&P GSCI, the two most widely used benchmarks tracking the performance of 25 and 23 major commodity futures, respectively. Different construction methodologies result in markedly different exposures: the BCOM is broadly balanced across energy, metals and agriculture, while the S&P GSCI allocates more than half of its weight to energy. This divergence helps explain last year’s performance gap, with the BCOM delivering a 15.7% return compared with just 7.1% for the S&P GSCI. Gold, silver and copper—last year’s top performers—account for around a quarter of the BCOM, but only 13.4% of the S&P GSCI. The annual rebalancing process begins on 8 January and runs over five business days.
