I think the current development cycle at mojang suffers from a lot of things and I wish it were different but I can trace back most of it to the fact that the community wouldn't shut up about fireflies and the birch forest concept art for years after they showed it off on mc live

Fujimoto's need to subvert expectations got to a point where devils lost the alien feel they used to have. Makima is the only horseman that feels ominous, Darkness is the only primal that felt downright eldritch and even Gun was far more inscrutable than anything in pt 2.
