That's a helluva win for #GorillaLacrosse today over a good and tough St Joe's team. UMass needed a strong A10 win after getting off the schneid last weekend against Bona Important for the Minutemen to have a tiebreak over the Hawks come the end of the year too

UMass just helped develop a Czech goalie into arguably the best goaltender in the NCAA Michael Hrabal was a 2nd round pick, #38 overall in 2023 and his countryman and fellow Minutemen commit Tobias Trejbal could be taken higher this year UMass may not miss a beat in net
Mike Morreale@mikemorrealeNHL

2026 @NHL Draft notebook: @USHL goalie Tobias Trejbal developed 'unflappability' with @YtownPhantoms. Watching Pavel Francouz play for Avalanche led to transition from defenseman to goalie. @UMassHockey nhl.com/news/nhl-draft…

UMass' AD (paraphrasing) "The increased travel costs moving to the MAC seem to have surprised us and affected our ability to compete right away, even though we told everyone we were coming in to be the 'standard of excellence' in the conference" Someone in the @UMass system do something, please
Colby Cohen@ColbyCohen36

Western Michigan AD “we will pay the tickets for any students who make the trip” When you have a great AD and a great Head Coach, forget big NIL money, you can build a powerhouse. Tremendous leadership will lead to more banners. #CawlidgeHawkey

Now I will never miss an opportunity to shit on Ryan Bamford's job performance but I will say, as part of their deal with the MAC, Sac State is covering the travel expenses of the teams that come out to Cali to play them in conference games so that should not be a concern here
Ricky E.@r1ckhouse

@UMassFootball @FightMA01003 On the road va. Sac State. This must be the travel expense excuse Bamford was using yesterday.

I didn't schedule the team for those games, the dipshit serving as AD did. He also set this up We're 15 years into this and finally in a conference, UMass should not be playing two FCS opponents in a season anymore I understand the logic of trying to set up wins, except I recall this team got beat by a bad FCS team just last year. In fact they are all of 7-5 against the FCS since they moved up from FCS in 2012 Literally no one is a guaranteed win for UMass football. It's a rock and a hard place sure, but it's embarrassing all the same
marcellus anderson@anderson58__

@FightMA01003 Would you rather play @ Iowa and @ Mizzou and have the whole team hurt ? 🤡

This isn't "unwinding an independent schedule" though, the Stonehill game was announced December 30th last year They wanted out of Hawai'i bad enough to pay $250K and they wanted a home game they viewed as a layup, so they added a 2nd FCS
Zibba22@zibba22

@FightMA01003 Unwinding the effects of an Independent Schedule takes a bit of time. The second FCS game was a late schedule adjustment and Ok for this year, but not going forward.

UMass has never won three games in a row as an FBS program. They've never even had a record above .500 as an FBS program, not even 2-1 It's mainly just pathetic that 15 years in this is even something to be considered let alone done
MACFBEnthusiast@macfbenthusiast

@FightMA01003 Considering the 0-12 season having multiple FCS games isn’t the worst idea. It’s also not a good idea either. Though the potential for 3 straight wins is cool.

UMass fans, read this quote excerpt from this piece and tell me who else it sounds like: "Vicky Chun is the absolute worst leader I have ever been around in my life. She is dishonest, self centered and inaccessible. Vicky’s singular talent is self promotion and has created a toxic environment within the department where she is insulated by a cadre of administrators whose main task seems to be silencing any dissent."

A disappointing season for Hockey East came to an end yesterday as all three of the conference's entrants into the MIH NCAAT lost in the first round Props to Merrimack for winning the conference, well-earned for them, but on the whole HEA was down this season It showed in the NPI rankings for the conference members, the inter-conference records and in the performance in the national tournament Hopefully we'll see HEA bounce back next season to where we normally expect it to be

I love how *barely* finishing 8th in the MAC is somehow not also a dogshit job of coaching for a guy making literally double what the next highest paid coach in the MAC makes, nevermind the resource gap
Mike Maynard@mikecmaynard

“Last year, I did a you-know-what job, and that's not acceptable. This year, we finished in eighth place. There's an adjustment period with the MAC.” “The A-10 and the MAC are two leagues that are played completely differently.” - Frank Martin

Frank Martin’s lengthy answer: “We can spend a lot less on travel, when we go play games, and it's gonna complicate the experience of the student athlete. That's like, that nickel and dime stuff, that's where a huge financial number can take place.
You know, Akron gets on a bus and travels to play 5 or 6 of their games. It doesn't cost them anything. That's a reality of the moment.
We have to grow it. We signed up to be part of a league, that I was excited about, that's for the wellbeing of our university. I'm not into the last league.
The A-10 was awesome. I came here to coach in the A-10. The A-10 was an incredible experience. That's in the rear view mirror, man. Like, we're not getting anywhere worried about the A-10 anymore. We're at a place that's gonna be incredible.
So we have to generate: me, I got to help him. This is not a Ryan Bamford problem.
This is a head coach. I've got to do more. This is what I'm saying.
I've got to be better when I'm in front of the world. So [Bamford] doesn't have any roadblocks when people that maybe don't like the fact that I yell and stomp my foot and drop some words that I’m not proud of sometimes. … Because it's the world that we're in in that league. The expenses it takes for us to be able to succeed. That’s what I'm telling you, we get everything we need. He could have said ‘We're going to the MAC, Frank, and guess what? You're taking 6 a.m. commercial flights on Mondays. And then on Wednesdays, because you can't travel back after you played Northern Illinois, you're gonna have to take a 6 a.m. commercial back to run practice Thursday on campus.’
He could have said that. And I would have said I'm too old for this. But he didn't.
He said ‘No, we're not doing this [not because of] you, Frank. It's not right for the athletes. We have to make sure we do this the right way.’
You have to conduct things in a championship manner to get a championship outcome. The winning and losing is on me. That's not on anybody else.
He's given me what we need to win. This administration gives us unbelievable resources, not just money, as human beings, to make sure that our players do things the right way. At the end, guys that sign up for my job, we understand what we sign up for.
You have to win, or you're not gonna stay at the school you're at. In men's basketball, you don't get to be .500. This isn’t a shot at anybody. You don't get to be .500 and keep your job. At any school. The people that have my job around the country, we understand the world that we signed up for to be there. We don't complain about it. That's what comes with being a men’s basketball coach in today's day and age.
… That’s the thing that's unique with the MAC. Think about the standings. You know what else the standings had in common?
The coaches have been in there with the exception of Travis Steele, who's been there four or five years, the other coaches have been there 9, 15, 17, 19 years. That's the continuity with little things, with the officials. I met every one of those [MAC officials] for the first time. I never knew any of those guys. Those guys have relationships with those coaches the way I had with the A-10 guys. It's all part of moving forward and growing.
… Revenue sharing is the new world that we’re in. And guys that have my job?
The window got even smaller. It used to be here, and then salaries got crazy, but I don't get out of bed and determine my salary. You know what I mean?
It's the great thing about America. The market determines your salary. You don't pick and choose what you want to get paid.
And then that window for coaches, over the last 20 years, went [smaller]. And the world that we're in right now, that window just went [even smaller] from a patience standpoint. We're okay with that, man.
We understand that. We signed up for the jobs. We can't complain about what comes with the job.”
