@MarkydeSade1964 From something I walked past idly yesterday I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole today on what sounds a storied place. There’s a BFI film (unavailable at the moment) player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watc… which I’d love to see.

@MickeyOnions More surprisingly, Robert Kennedy made his first public speech there. The list of contributors is indeed spectacular but Jimmy Butterworth was, apparently, often downhearted but the actual level of financial support given. MC was living in Urlwin St. at the time.

@EdPentelow Definitely worth a look in. I think the aesthetic is upmarket New York bar inside. Based on my brief couple of pints it was a bit KPMG/‘can I have a recepit?’ crowd but that’s fine really. Staff were lovely. There were also pub/beer dorks like me in which was lovely.

@MickeyOnions Need to pop up there at some point. Am hearing good things!

@MickeyOnions I may have a stroll that way later to have a nose.

Today’s crawl is around Tufnell Park and Archway in North London.
Have a great Saturday, and support a pub if you can. 🍻

@MickeyOnions Personally I wouldn’t want the pub to change. But if there is a big cash incentive to secure your future, it would be hard to say no.

Blimey. Nolan’s in Nine Elms could be demolished and redeveloped but by the pub itself in this case, which is an unusual turn of events. southwarknews.co.uk/area/south-lon…

@LondonPubMap What do they think about it? I can see why you’d do it in some ways and there is very little planning opposition to doing so it seems given that road has had loads of stuff knocked down/built on.
English

@MickeyOnions I’ve had it confirmed by one of the regulars.

@jimmy__mcintosh Yes it’s not something I’ve seen before but from the reporting it sounds like there are a lot of £ reasons to do so and importantly few to zero planning restrictions to get in the way but that place has a real soul to it I don’t think a new build can possibly hope to recreate.

@MickeyOnions Pretty sure this was what the Olde Apple Tree in Peckham wanted to do as well. I suppose it’s an attractive proposition for a landlord, but still…
