@Eric_Erins Berks County and the Reading area aren't cheap anymore and the school and property taxes are closer to what you'd pay to live in Philly suburbs than not.

Buy a rowhouse in Reading PA right now before it’s too late. Go into debt if you have to

From last year and I could update it, but the story hasn’t changed I’m sure. Population change in Pennsylvania, 2020-2024.

@flurryfrenzy Both for sure. William Hanna & Joseph Barbera are proper legends for making the theatrical Tom & Jerry cartoons, and in many ways they pioneered low budget TV animation. Their output was bad in the 70s, but The Simpsons and experimental Adult Swim shows are their brainchildren.
English

CN shows would constantly reference the network’s Hanna Barbera origins and the best part is you could never tell if it was contempt, respect, or both

@BringBackBanjoK Excellent choice. I used to have a launch 20GB PS3 with CFW but it sadly got the YLOD so I got rid of it instead of dropping half a grand into fixing it. Maintaining one is like maintaining a luxury sports car but it definitely feels premium.

@BradWilcoxIFS @NRO You get paid half as much and get half the perks of a white collar job. To get to a place where you might make a decent living, you need to be in for years and likely need to work a lot of overtime, assuming you don’t destroy your health by then.

"As the # of tradesmen retiring [increases], # of young people entering those occupations [fails] to keep pace. Today, for every 5 tradesmen who leave workforce, only 2 younger workers replace them."
Consequently: "nearly 1.4 million trade jobs will be unfilled by 2030." @NRO

@spikesguides My mind immediately goes to “late 90s software box”. Can’t say I was ever a fan but it makes me smile in a dumb way looking at it retrospectively

The aesthetic was called Global Village Coffee House and it was a reaction to 80s luxury and excess, where people wanted something that felt more authentic and less mass produced.
They wanted to feel like they were in a coffee shop looking at the dogshit art on the wall, knowing it sucked but at least it was real and came from the heart.
When I see it, I'm reminded of stores that didn't feel like sterile labs and felt like shops. It sounds like a Nora Jones CD. It tastes like a whole wheat bread turkey sandwich and mediocre black coffee.
It's a comfy kind of nostalgia.

@harrisondubay When one person in a row of connected houses is slovenly, their messes become your messes too, as do the roaches and rats they’ve attracted.

Why are Anglos obsessed with houses that don’t touch. What is the anorexia alley achieving

Would love to see developers build suburbia like this.

@SandyofCthulhu Surf Dracula is perfect 1960s television. Show me a coffin hanging ten with canned laughter and I’d think it was a lost episode of The Munsters

@Shinich08413513 Nirvana is easily the more Radio Friendly Unit Shifter of the two. Kurt was a high energy punk with a chaotic stage presence. Way more relatable to teenagers and general audiences. What made AiC great is also what made them too dark and gloomy to be accessible beyond a few hits.
English

Alice In Chains is more appealing and heavier than anything Nirvana Did.
I never understood why Nirvana became much more popular and seen as the best in the grunge genre when Alice In Chains Did everything Nirvana but 100 times better.

@SpencerKlavan The metaverse was cringe and dated before it was even announced.

I wonder if there are any other tech products being breathlessly hyped as the all-consuming paradigm shift of the future that will look similarly cringe and dated in ten years

Netflix executives "laughed" over the claim they demand movies and TV shows to restate plot points over and over for viewers.
"We actually all laughed when we watched that bit at the Oscars, but there's no such principle," Netflix film boss Dan Lin said. "I mean, if you watch our movies or TV shows, we don't repeat our plot. So I don't know where that comment came from. Certainly, we are focused on making great movies."

Genuinely used to be one of those “this is a good starter anime” people but then I saw some post saying “Do you think Japanese people say stuff like ‘you should start with Family Guy before advancing to South Park’” and it changed my whole view.
