The Internet does not care about true creativity; it cares about fanservice, which is achieved either by fan illustrations, furries or fetish illustrations of any kind (much of which are fan illustrations). This is why the derivative nature of AI is a weak argument against it.

If you're an illustrator primarily (or only) known for making fan illustrations of characters from IPs conceived by people much more well known than yourself, AI effectively makes you easily replaceable.

I have to imagine that if there's anything about generative AI that makes Internet fan illustrators particularly uncomfortable, it's the value proposition that AI presents to those who only care about fan images of preexisting or IP characters.
