@B1GHockey @1980MiracleTeam @BadgerWHockey Mark was an amazing player, is a great person, and is now, and no surprise to the people who know him, one of the greatest college coaches of all time in any sport and he has been for awhile.

An off day in Vegas.
Grabbed a cigar. Hit a few balls and then went to the 1st tee.
Walked back to cart to be floored by what my cart number was.
I nearly fell. Couldn’t believe it. Love ya Muzz. Thanks for watching over. 19 ❤️

I can think of a hundred Troy Murray stories on the ice and off, but I’ll just offer one, if you’ll allow…
It was clean-out-your lockers day and press availability in 2014, a couple days after a brutal, Game 7 OT loss to LA in the WCF, a bad break away from what would have ultimately been a three-peat. Pretty somber day for the local hockey club. As we spoke to Joel Quenneville, seated in rows of reporters, and just before I was to get the microphone, Troy was sitting next to me and for reasons neither of us could explain, he placed his hand gently on my thigh and kept it there. Like little kids in the back of the class, we began to giggle and then outright laugh. We could not stop. Bob Verdi, to the other side of me, and Meghan Bower, on Troy’s side, looked at the fools we were and turned away from the nonsense. I would have departed, but as I tried to stand, Troy squeezed my leg and wouldn’t let go. Meghan wisely passed the mic elsewhere, as I could not speak. I noticed Joel answering questions while occasionally glancing in our direction. Children. Just a pair of children screwing around at an inappropriate time.
I think many things when I think of Troy. His first fight, which went laughably bad. Swallowing his bridge. The famous OT goal. 99 points and his Selke defense of 99. The Clydesdales. The Minnesota wars. Playing a series in ’86 with broken ribs and a broken hand. His fearlessness. The terrific hockey player. Scotch and cigars in the radio booth at 2 a.m. after the Hawks won the Cup at home. The stand-up guy. The ridiculous golf outings. Yet, my favorite is that day and his hand on my leg. Whatever that says. I dunno.
I’m sad for you and your family, bud. And I’ll miss you. #RIP #TroyMurray #blackhawks

@RamblinMan60512 We had 22 guys and the next morning 2 were gone.. same day, same time, and later that afternoon, 20 guys left for Lake Placid. There was no “last guy cut” on that team, there was the “last 2”
English

@MiracleOC Why not as much mention of Jack Hughes as compared to Ralph Cox?
So, there was actually a “final 2 cuts?”
Not a final cut?
English

Nice article in the WSJ about our 1980 teammate Jack Hughes who was a great American hockey player and a great teammate. wsj.com/opinion/u-s-ho…

Bill Guerin on USA players being disparaged because of White House/SOTU attendance: "I'm not surprised at anything nowadays. I'm not surprised, but I'm also not letting it bother me. You know what? We just won a Gold Medal. Nothing's going to ruin this. I don't care what people say or what they think. That's one hell of a team. Those kids are all great people, good family men and nothing that anybody could ever say would make me change my mind. I don't care."

Not talking about the 2026 Jack Hughes, talking about the 1980 Jack Hughes from Somerville, Ma who was a right shot DMan and a stand out at Harvard in the late 70s and played on our 1980 Miracle on Ice team and played the entire pre Olympic schedule (60ish games) with our team but was released on the same day as Ralph Cox the day before we left for Lake Placid to play the final 7 Olympic Games. Rosters were fixed in that year at 20 players, no spares, and we had 22 guys up until the day we left for LP and we all knew that 2 guys weren’t coming with but didn’t know who until that day….Jack and Ralph.
English

@MiracleOC That's not the same Jack Hughes, O.C. This one shoots right, the kid in NJ shoots left.

@Leafslatest Real Canadians will cheer to the moon celebrating Auston..
English

The Maple Leafs are set to honour Auston Matthews tomorrow night in his first game since winning gold at the Olympics with the USA.
Matthews has been under a bit of heat since he and his teammates visited the White House to celebrate their gold medal, with some even suggesting he should be booed at the ceremony tomorrow night in Toronto; however, Canadian hockey legend and former Hockey Night in Canada host Don Cherry believes Leafs fans should cheer and applaud Matthews rather than boo when he returns home.
“You should give him an ovation because the way the American hockey players have been treated is ridiculous… He’s been a good player here.”
